I hear them whisper “She looks different than her”
In their voices, I could hear my insecurities rising
Stood in front of the mirror longer than usual,
Questioning my reflection.
That day I touched my skin with disgust
Hoping I could make their remarks blur
I covered myself with hatred emphasizing
Wish they welcomed humans with more affection.
I grew up with disappointment in my own crust
Little did I know their thoughts did not define me
I wish I could tell my little self “My dear, just grin and cheer ”
Soon their judgment will smear
When you will rise like a Phoenix set free
