Poetic Ramayana

As I start the poem on Ramayana 

I pray to Lord Ganesha 

Dear Lord Ganesha, help me finish my goal 

Let me get started and set the poem on roll (1) 

The story begins in India 

In the famous kingdom of Ayodhya 

There were many rulers like Harischandra 

But one of the famous ones was King Dasaratha (2) 

Everyone was happy in Ayodhya 

Except for King Dasaratha 

He was sad because he was all alone 

“I don’t have children” he would moan (3) 

Up in the heaven the Devas met 

To talk about Ravana’s racket 

The Devas started to call for help 

They shouted, they screamed and they yelped (4) 

Vishnu told them “I will be born as a man” 

So the Devas and the God’s made a plan 

Dasaratha’s kingdom made a Yagna 

So that children could be born to Dasaratha (5) 

Agni Deva gave Amrutham 

All the Three wives ate some 

The first born Lord Rama was Lord Vishnu 

His three brothers were a part of him too (6) 

Vasishta taught the Sons everything 

He didn’t leave a single thing 

The Sons became bright and strong 

They have learnt for so long (7) 

Vishwamitra came to call Rama 

“No!!” said the worried Dasaratha 

The King was convinced by Vasishta 

So Rama and Lakshmana went with Vishwamitra (8) 

The Three went to Dandaka Forest 

They didn’t have any rest 

They stayed in an Ashram 

And waited for the Asuras to come (9) 

Rama killed the demoness Tataka 

And launched a rocket on Maricha 

Lakshmana killed Subahu 

The Asuras in Lanka cried “boooo” (10)

The three went to Mithila 

And saved the poor little Ahalya 

They met King Janaka 

And attended the Swayamvara (11) 

The One who lifts Shiva’s Bow 

Would attend Sita’s Show 

No Men could lift that Thing 

Rama lifted and flung the String (12) 

Parasurama got furious 

Because the bow was Gorgeous 

So he asked Rama to shoot with Vishnu’s Bow 

He was also an Incarnation of Vishnu, Rama Showed (13) 

Rama married Sita 

Lakshmana married Urmila 

Bharatha married Mandavi 

Shatrugna married Sruthakirti (14) 

Later Dasaratha decided to crown Rama 

Everyone agreed except Manthara 

She told Queen Kaikeyi to say 

Bharata should be king and Rama to go away (15) 

Many years ago 

Kaikeyi saved the life of Dasaratha so 

He gave Two Boons that she could use 

And now was the time she decided to choose (16) 

Kaikeyi fell down pretending she was mad 

After hearing this Dasaratha got sad 

Rama saw him full of tears 

Kaikeyi and Manthara got some cheers (17) 

Rama started to prepare for His exile in the forest 

He tried to convince Sita and Lakshmana, He tried his very best 

But they refused and wanted to come 

So they wore garments and bark trees some (18) 

The people in Ayodhya were very Upset 

The Carriage rode as fast as a Jet 

On the way they met Guha 

The people in Ayodhya missed Rama (19) 

Guha and Rama hugged as Friends 

Guha wanted to be with Ram till the End 

To Chitrakoot he took Him in a Boat 

With sadness and sorrowful he stood Afloat (20) 

While this happened, Kaikeya, the place Bharatha was In 

That is why He did not see the Sin 

He was with His Grandfather 

And did not know what had happened to His Father (21) 

Dasaratha suddenly passed Away 

People in Ayodhya cried the whole Day 

Kaikeyi called “Come Bharatha” 

After seeing He cried “Wah…. (22) 

People in Ayodhya travelled Far 

Day and Night following a Star 

They tried to convince Rama to come Back 

Rama said “No”, even if they tried a Lakh (23) 

Bharatha talked to Rama about the Kingdom 

“There is no Governor, so please Come” 

Hearing the news about Dasaratha 

Ram, like Bharatha, cried “Wah..” (24) 

Bharatha said He will not Rule 

So He put Rama’s sandals on a Stool 

Rama moved to Panchavati 

They lived there for a long time Happily (25) 

One day, Surpanaka came to their Hut 

Lakshmana and Rama trick her, and her nose They Cut 

Surpanaka goes back to Sri Lanka 

She complains to the King Ravana (26) 

Surpanaka sent Kara and Dushana 

To kill Rama and Lakshmana 

But Rama killed them both Dead 

He chopped His hands and threw His Head (27) 

Sita saw a beautiful Deer 

She went to touch and went Near 

In the narrow forest it Went 

Sita requested Rama for it, and away he Went (28) 

Sita heard and awful Cry 

She got shocked and screamed “Oh my” 

Maricha cried “ Lakshmana!!!” “Sita!!!!” 

“Go Lakshmana Go” said Sita (29) 

Lakshmana went leaving Sita Alone 

He went with a Groan 

Before He left He drew Lakshman Rekha 

To protect His dear mother-like Sita (30) 

Ravana arrived as a Sage 

To trap His beloved in a Cage 

With his beautiful Sita he Flew 

You can’t believe this! This is True!! (31) 

Up flew Jatayu 

As he flew, Ravana’s sword Drew 

Site threw Her Ornaments 

“Oo Oo Catch them” the Monkeys Went (32) 

Rama began to search Sita 

“Sita!!! Sita!!!” cried Rama 

The two Brothers saw Jatayu 

They asked “What Happened to You” (33) 

Jatayu explained Everything 

He did not leave a Singe Thing 

He asked them to make a Funeral Pyre 

And peacefully died in the Fire (34) 

While going to find Sita 

They met a rakshasa called Kabanda 

Rama freed the cursed Kabanda 

He showed the way for Rama (35) 

On the way They met Sabari 

She gave them sweet Berries 

She asked Them to prepare a Funeral Pyre 

And she rose like a feather as she stepped into Fire (36) 

They carried on, as they Went 

Hanuman watched near the Tent 

He was curious who they Were 

So He went to ask “ Hello Sir” (37) 

He went disguised as a Man 

Carrying a sauce Pan 

He came as He showed stride 

He met them with some big Pride (38) 

Rama said “I am searching for my wife Sita” 

“ I was led here by Kabanda” 

“And I have to meet Sugriva” 

Glad Hanuman said “Oh! You must be Rama” (39) 

They became Friends 

Information to Sugriva, Hanuman Sends 

They met Sugriva 

He was ready to help Rama (40) 

Sugriva told the whole Story 

About him and his brother Vali 

Vali and Sugriva set up a Duel 

Although good, Vali was Cruel (41) 

Sugriva wanted to know if Rama was Strong 

Rama lifted a skeleton (with his toe) and it went Bong 

Convinced, Sugriva requested help from Him 

Rama hid behind the trees some Slim (42) 

First Rama didn’t know who was who 

So Sugriva wore a garland to give Rama a Clue 

Vali fought Sugriva with Pomp and Show 

Ram shot Vali with his Bow (43) 

Vali was now dead 

Tara and Angada , tears they Shed 

They made a Funeral Pyre 

He peacefully rested on the Fire (44) 

Sugriva was made the King 

With Dancers dancing and singers Singing 

He forgot his promise for Help 

Lakshmana screamed and Yelped (45) 

Finally, Sugriva remembered his Promise 

And sent for his troops without a Miss 

He stated the Mission 

To locate the Place to get some Vision (46) 

Angada, Hanuman, Nala and Neela 

Went Southwards in search of Sri Lanka 

They reached near a little Cave 

Where some food a lady Gave (47) 

There they a rested a little While 

Then they went in a little Aisle 

They reached to the Sea Shore 

To find Lanka. It was a Bore (48) 

Just then a Vulture passed By 

It cried “Yummy Food Oh! My” 

It heard the name of Jatayu 

And Cried “ Waa boo.. hoo..” (49) 

It was the Big Brave Sampati 

Who knew a bit about Lankapathi 

He said, “Beyond the sea there is the island of Lanka, 

And there dwells the mighty Ravana” (50) 

The Monkeys were wondering how to Cross 

And were very scared of their Boss 

Jamabavan said Hanuman could fly up High 

He said “ I will try to Fly” (51) 

He opened his Chest and increased his size 

The he flew up in the blue skies 

“Jai Hanuman” everyone cheered Loud 

Cheering and chanting waited the Crowd (52) 

Hanuman Flew Up and Up 

Mount Mahendra formed a Cup 

The mountain asked him to Rest 

Hanuman said “I will come back later and you’re the Best” (53) 

Hanuman met Surasa 

She said “Come into my mouth and I’ll say Aaaa” 

Hanuman shrunk and went Inside 

Before she shut her mouth, He went Outside (54) 

Hanuman met Lankini 

She was the Lanka Devi 

Hanuman fought her because she was blocking His Way 

He killed her and went Away (55)

Finally, He reached Sri Lanka 

To find Rama’s wife Sita 

He found a Garden, a tree to Peep 

And there was the beauty off to Sleep (56) 

The next morning came the mighty Ravana 

To warn the poor Sita, 

That there are two more months to Go 

She said “ No!! How cruel you are, Rama will Show” (57) 

Hanuman started Chants and Cheers 

About her husband she went in Tears 

Sita gave him her Chudamani 

So that Rama could be Happy (58) 

Hanuman started wrecking the Garden 

Soldiers attacked Him by Thousand and Tens 

Hanuman killed them in a sec 

If there were more Asuras he went to Check (59) 

Next the Mighty Indrajeet Came 

He was equal, he was Same 

He then shot the Brahmastra 

So- Hanuman surrendered to this celestial Astra (60) 

Ravana asked the Monkey to Come 

So that he could give his ear Some 

Vibeeshna advised Ravana not to punish Him as was his Desire 

So Ravana said “Set His Tail on Fire” (61) 

After the Fire was Set 

Hanuman spread the fire as fast as a Jet 

To quench the flames, into the sea he had to Dive 

The Vanara army saw him Survive (62) 

The army started to jump up High 

They wrecked the Garden with Joy 

Hanuman told everything to Rama 

And gave the Chudamani of Sita (63) 

The Vanaras went to the Sea Shore 

Even animals came from the forest Floor 

Rama prayed to the Sea God 

But the Sea did not hear the Plea of the Lord (64) 

Rama got Angry 

Because the sea did not respond Quickly 

So, the Brahmastra He was about to Release 

The Devas and the Demigods it Pleased (65) 

The Sea God addressed Rama and said 

“Write on the rocks and it will float on the Sea Bed 

You can build a bridge in this Way 

Walk on me of course you May” (66) 

“Shoot not your Arrow but make a Turn 

Northwards to the Volcano so Animals don’t Burn 

Now please permit me to Ascend Down 

To take care of my Sea Town” (67) 

The Vanaras started to make the Bridge 

Day and night, they worked like a Fridge 

Even a small squirrel threw stones from a Pit 

So, Rama appreciated and Blessed It (68) 

Finally, when the Bridge was Done, 

He started walking below the Sun 

They walked, they danced and jumped up High 

Pain showed on their Legs and Thighs (69) 

Two Men from the Army of Rama, 

Were the sons of Vishwakarma 

Nala and Neela, the great Architects 

Who helped make a plan Perfect (70) 

When Rama’s army reached Sri Lanka 

Angada went to Ravana 

And shook the Palace and Ravana ’s crown fell 

He sniggered and ran away to Rama to Tell (71) 

Vibeeshana argued with Ravana 

To return Sita to Rama 

He got out of that Place 

To receive some peace and God’s Grace (72)

 

The next day Rama declared War 

While the Vanaras prayed to a Shooting Star 

All morning they put a Fight 

They showed their strength and Might (73) 

One by one Ravana Sends 

His Kith, Kin, Sons and Friends 

Day and Night, they all Fought 

The Vanaras kept destroying their Plot (74) 

Without a choice he sent Indrajeet 

To Rama he went to meet 

Lakshmana began to fight Too 

He knocked them down and said “Boo” (75) 

Garuda came to save Rama 

From the Cruel Meghanatha 

He ate the snakes and went Away 

To the Heaven where He Stays (76) 

Kumbhakarna the Giant Came 

And fought the war and Rama he Blamed 

Rama chopped his hands and Legs 

The monkeys watched like little Pegs (77) 

Majestically went Meghanatha 

With a screaming Sita 

He took a sword and chopped Her Head 

Vanaras cried assuming Her to be Dead (78) 

“It’s an illusion” said Vibeeshana 

“It’s the Black Magic of Meghanatha 

He does prayers and sacrifices to Nikumbhala 

And from there he gets the Maya” (79) 

The next morning the mighty Meghanatha 

Shot a powerful Astra on Lakshmana 

He fainted and was almost Dead 

They carried Him and put Him in Bed (80) 

Jamabavan told Hanuman so, 

“Through the mountains you have to Go 

 And get the Herb Sanjeevani” 

Hanuman lifted the entire mountain, its true you see!! (81) 

With the mountain He came back to Ground 

Because he wasn’t patient to look Around 

They got the Herb and made a Paste 

And in Lakshmana’s mouth they put a drop of the sour Taste (82) 

The Medicine of Herb was used for Everyone 

The next day They were fit to go in the Sun 

So many Soldiers were Killed 

Arrows, Bows and Maces were Filled (83) 

Lakshmana quickly got Healed 

Rama and others were all Relieved 

Lakshmana, Hanuman and Vibeeshana 

Went to the sacrifice site of Nikumbhala (84) 

Lakshmana crept up to Meghanatha 

“Don’t disturb him” said Vibeeshana 

He took his sword and chopped his Head 

Blocked the cave and left him Dead (85) 

Ravana was Furious 

But something made him Curious 

So he called for Ahi and Mahi Ravana 

He asked them to Slay Rama and Lakshmana (86) 

Mahi went disguised as Vibeeshana 

And made Hanuman lead him to Rama 

Hanuman went back to Sleep 

Ahi and Mahi took them underground like a Creep (87) 

Hanuman saw Vibeeshana in His Tent 

And asked “Who was back there” with His Knees Bent 

“That was not me” said Vibeeshana 

It was Ahi and Mahi Ravana (88) 

Hanuman flew to Patala Loka 

To kill Ahi and Mahi Ravana 

There He saw a fierce Guard 

He didn’t know it was his Son Makaradwaja, He hit him Hard (89) 

Makaradwaja and Hanuman started to Fight 

Luckily it didn’t take a Night 

He tied him up and went Away 

Makaradwaja couldn’t escape he had to Stay (90) 

Hanuman entered the Cave 

Rama and Lakshmana, he had to Save 

Ahi and Mahi were doing a Sacrifice 

They prayed to Chandi to give her a Slice (91) 

Hanuman killed Mahi Ravana 

And then went for Ahi Ravana 

But Ahi had a Boon 

And he had to think about it Soon (92) 

Hanuman had to blow five Candles 

So he stretched his muscles and removed His Sandals 

As Panchamukhi, Hanuman Transformed 

And blew the candles in that Form (93) 

He killed Ahi and went Away 

Took Rama and Lakshmana and Saved the Day 

He went off to Spread the News 

Recalling the past and present Views (94) 

Before Hanuman went to His Place 

There was a little bit to the Case 

He got to know the story about His Son 

He made Makaradwaja king and continued His Run (95) 

Next morning there was a Battle 

The Animals went away, even the Cattle 

Rama and Ravana fought each Other 

Even Lakshmana helped His Brother (96) 

Ravana got Tired 

Many arrows were Fired 

Rama told him to Go 

And told him “Come back Tomorrow” (97) 

Indra gave Rama a special Gift 

And a helper for the Chariot Lift 

So they were again ready to start the War 

The Devas appreciated that they had gone so Far (98) 

Rama tried to get Ravana Dead 

One by one he chopped his Head 

But all his head grew Back 

And Rama wondered how to Attack (99) 

At that point Vibeeshana Said 

“Ravana’s life is not on his Head 

It’s in his naval, that precious life 

Shoot with an arrow, a sword or a Knife” (100) 

Lord Rama aimed at the Naval of Ravana 

Shot him and Victory to Rama!! 

Rama informed Hanuman to bring Sita 

So that Sita meets Rama (101) 

“Quick go to Ravana 

Learn as much as you can, Lakshmana. 

Don’t sit near his Head. 

Sit humbly near his Feet”, Rama said (102) 

Rama didn’t know that Sita was a pious Soul 

She didn’t thank Him for achieving the Goal 

She asked for a pyre 

With Bravery and courage, she stepped into the Fire (103) 

Agni Deva caught Her in His Hands 

Lifted Her up and made a careful Land 

This proved that Sita was Pure Hearted 

Rama and Sita’s journey had just Started (104) 

They did the funeral of Ravana 

And crowned Vibeeshana as the King of Lanka 

They rode the Pusphaka vimana to Ayodhya 

Beautiful places they saw and picked up Bharatha (105) 

The Mothers and Brothers were in Tears 

“Jai Rama, Jai Sita” they all Cheered 

In an Auspicious time, Rama’s coronation was Done 

Their new Life had just Begun (106) 

To appreciate Hanuman’s Greatness 

Sita presented Him with a Pearl Necklace 

Hanuman showed Them within Him by Tearing His Heart 

That’s what makes Him a Class Apart (107) 

Everyone was peaceful and very Joyful 

No bad omens. Their hearts were Full 

Fathers, Mothers, Daughters and Sons 

This Story should be remembered by Everyone (108)
