New Year
New Year
The old carries in it the burden of the new that has to be….
Like the mother faithfully carrying the young in her womb,
To deliver in seclusion away from predators and devils.
Likewise, the old year gave way to the new,
In the still of mid-night when life was at its lowest ebb,
And we woke up to find the old calendar replaced…
By the new one, as if in a military coup.
And suddenly everything seemed new, vibrant and cheerful.
The fatigue, pain and disappointment of the old
Got drowned in the avalanche of joy
Of the birth of the new-born year- for which
We got busy planning for its fruition and success.
Let not the step falter and the plan fail,
Let our gaze be fixed on prosperity and peace,
And on the lofty ideal of universal brotherhood…
To make this earth a better place to live,
And to transform this earthly life into life divine.
