La Familia

La Familia

The mom so soft and the dad so strong

I and my brother claimed who is their favorite, who loves who

I would always suggest I am their princess and he is in the queue

He’d retaliate saying I am wrong

And they’d never pay heed “go you decide”, they’d set us aside

Saying just this as if it is a treasure they hide.

It’s been years and we are still finding

For their love was so binding

Making us what we are, building us block by block

For we were your clay

If today my little brother is my life it’s only because

You were clearing our doubts without letting us know

Thank you for you modeled us to love, you modeled us to grow

In the end, I think, it all comes to the family

For, your love was so nurturing, reminding me of the incredible pleasure

I got sitting in your lap or taking a nap

and you were always by our side, there never was a gap

I know sometimes we were so difficult maybe we still are

Yet you always took us seriously, though some of our activities were really bizarre

Papa would never say it loud

But he is that silver lining in the darkest cloud

An incident I’d like to share, and this always makes me so proud

Once I was unable to meet my deadline, I had to be somewhere

He drove all night so that I could be there

And it’s just one incident where he bore the pain

So that I smile again.

And 'that' is my father

Mom would say it several times

Always reading between the lines

We can’t hide anything from her.

She is the source of inspiration for everyone to refer

In spite of the fact that you made her suffer

All your pain and sorrows are hers, and she is yours

She won’t judge you on your flaws

 And 'that' is my mother

Amazingly, they never said what they did

They never mentioned the pains they hid.

Maybe all of it was not their pain but their pleasure

Maybe that is how all the greatest parents are

He is my hero and she is my star.
