Kingdom Of War

Movements of light and hues of shadows collided across the velvet sky,

blotched with the clouds of longing.

All the voices turned into an echo, why, we wonder.

It all manifested as a sense of unease, 

Came out of our own diffidence and took us under.

 

What was left of the ragged breaths emptied out from our lungs

and scattered all over our conscience.

Left us with nothing but a tranquil yet deafening song.

Where was that vicious, victorious snake we pretended to be?

Where had it gone?

 

But with each step, we could feel it slither in,

crawling up our chests,

Curling around them, choking them with our own doubts.

The hunger to poison the powerless, the hunger for power,

had awakened that snake that we once tried to suppress underneath our worthy shouts.

 

And the war, the chaos that was raging inside us, fighting for dominance, striving for immortality,

Left us with fading silhouettes of all we've ever been.

They said that a moment of realization could overthrow this pretentious realm of constant tussle.

But could we ever completely be free of darkness inside us, the one we created?

For what kingdom could really evade downfall without a cold-hearted queen?
