Janaki - The Woman God

Janaki - The Woman God

I lie,

In a fetal position,

Safe in my mother’s womb,

Like you, woman, now I am born,

I am Blessed.

King Janaka, the virtuous one, is my Father.

Like some of you, I get a right to choose my husband.

Yes, but I am destined,

To choose the blue-hued one.

I think I am still blessed.

As the blue-hued one,

Is revered across the world.

Women your blessings -

Emanate from your men.

Your father, your husband, you sons

Their virtue will be yours,

Their glory yours,

Their drawbacks…..cause of your sufferings!

I am still Royalty

I have attendants to look after me,

Pamper me, dress me like a doll

Alas, the Blue-hued one,

Has been banished to the forest,

I, like most of you choose to follow him,

My life changes,

Bereft of attention.

But I was happy serving my Lord

Forest is not a place for women…

And I am abducted,

Even when under protection of two great warriors

Though respected,

I am now in an enemy’s territory

And wish to be back with my Lord.

The Blue-hued one is a God,

He defeats the enemy

And takes me back to his realm

I am heavenly being too

But I am tested

And I speak not a word!

Back to our kingdom,

I see a dip in respect,

For the blue hued Human God.

And so,

Just like all of you,

I am sacrificed at the Altar

But being a God

I will not accept my fate

Of being a Human Woman anymore

Back to the fetal position

I am safe again in my mother’s womb

I am at least entitled to with this honor, Ma!
