When a heart breaks?

Like a bird shot in mid-flight

A scream cleaving through the night

A cry silenced deep inside

Your throat.

Like a gavel in the chest

Forbidding the beating in your breast

A gnawing pain

Devouring you over and over again.

Pushing you to the edge

Of an abyss.

Is this how it feels

When a heart breaks?

Like the cut of a knife

Slashing up your life

To bits and pieces

Like being alone in the wilderness

Sans light, sans food, sans companionship

While, all the while

Voices whisper in your ear

Reinforcing your worst fear

Asking you…what? When? And WHY?
