If Only You Could Listen....

If Only You Could Listen....

I was born in a big community,
Grew up with many peers,
Thinking back, it amazes me,
How it's been so many years.

While I was young and still growing,
I never once felt blue,
With people caring, and birds chirping,
The pets, and stray ones too.

I loved being in the midst of all,
animals, birds, and people,
But one by one, my world began to fall,
To you, it seemed so simple.

A few of us were spared each time,
and our friends were highly grateful,
But even though we were in our prime,
Most of us did crumble.

In solitude today I stand,
Wondering if you'll spare me,
I know you have the upper hand,
and decide my destiny.

A good thing it is, you claim
We serve a 'higher purpose', once grown,
It is hard for me to place blame,
to each, one's opinion, his own.

After all the times you've stood beneath me,
For shade from sun and storm,
And all the climbing and the fun
Will you, for not once mourn?

You breathe in what I breathe out,
must that not count as good?
Does this not put you in little doubt,
whether you misunderstood?

My demands from you are quite less,
I make my own food and share!
And all this global warming mess,
is because of your ill-care.

I know you'll miss me when I'm gone,
These good things you won't forget,
I do not mind that I'm alone,
I just hope you don't regret.

Think wisely and then decide,
My fate now lies with you
Where do you think I should reside,
Unto yourself be true.
