Hampi, The Land Of Kings

Hampi, The Land Of Kings

Hampi, the land of kings

Now regretfully in ruins

Erstwhile known as Kishkinda in the days of yore

With vanaras flourishing here in crore

Born here Hanuman, the mightiest vanara

In the Anjanadri hills to Anjana, the Apsara

Visited by Rama and Sita during the exile

Fought against Vali who was hostile

Sangama brothers, Hakka and Bukka, this land they discovered

And famous Vijayanagara empire they established

Named Hampe after river Tungabadra or Pampa

Bounded rest by mountains Hemakuta, Anjanadri and Matanga

Vittala temple built in the 15th century stands the grandest

Embodies the architecture and creativeness at its finest

Stands ahead a Stone Chariot so elegant

Dedicated to Lord Vishnuʼs carrier, Garuda the eminent

The renowned, Ranga Mantapa has 56 musical pillars made of a single stone

Emanating the Saptha Swara, SAREGAMA, the musical tone

Virupaksha temple worshipped even presently

Built using patterns and concepts mathematically

Ruined and robbed by the attack of Mughal emperor

The Deccan sultans, Pridar, Bijapur, Ahmednagar, Golconda and Bihar

Hampi, the land of kings

Now regretfully in ruins
