From The Point Of View Of Life And Death

From The Point Of View Of Life And Death

I have seen a lot

During my term of existence

An existence that

Began before that of my brother

Death’s.

I too have felt a lot

Though I was born after my sister

And my experiences tell

Different stories than that of my sibling

Life’s.

Lt’s begin from the beginning, shall we?

Not you beginning, the one with- what was it?- ah, algae

Not that, no. Our beginning was a time

When there was nothing but

Chaos.

Chaos that we churned

From our laughter and our petty fights

Time passed and we grew

Till finally a day came when we decided

Enough-

Enough of the meaningless existence

It was time to do something

Suffice it to say, that that was when I

Created your ancestor, your much revered

Algae.

Now that I think of it, I realize

We have come quite far, from carrying between ourselves

Thoughtless creatures, to beings creating

Their own life and their own destruction. That’s you-

Humans.

An excerpt from my memories:

The year 1942, in Germany

A grown man holding his son’s battered body

Covered in dust, crying, screaming into the ashy night

“God, no!”

An excerpt from my memories:

The year 1942, in Germany

A teenage soul climbed out of his father’s arms into mine

At peace, whispering to his father

“It is not God.”

So let me assure you by saying

That when culture told you I was White

And my brother Black, they were wrong

Because we are simply siblings born of the same mother

Time.

Do not fear me, for I too

Am beautiful, I have colour, I have light

And I have my darkness just like my sister does

But know this: The colours in both of us are not black or white

They are infinite.
