FRESHWATER ECOSYSTEMS: ENVISAGING WATER FOR ALL

The serenity of the freshwater ecosystems,

Like that of a pearl deep inside the ocean beds,

Fishes and corals as their family,

With lotus and water lily,

they are an epitome of tranquility.

Freshwater ecosystems nurture life,

We take thou for granted as they are rife.

Low salt concentration thou contain,

Thou art replenished by rain,

Thou art devoid of worldly profit and gains,

Though as a commodity, thou art the bearer of all pains.

Through thou we grow food grains,

Thou art exploited by contaminated drains,

Thou art spoilt by plastic wastes,

Unaware of the dire consequences we all have to face.

Conservation of freshwater ecosystems is what we must envisage,

Before water takes its form of rage.

For water takes all forms,

solid , liquid and haze,

And hosts aquatic life without terms.

Water serves without any wage,

Yet with its diversified range , the freshwater ecosystems are as wise as a sage.

Thy services deserve a salute,

And warn people to not pollute.

Let us wake , come forward , men and women,

Preserve our environment,

With ponds, rivers and lakes,

Before it is too late.

Drip irrigation to Rain water harvesting,

Are the conservation practices we must follow

Because there is no other planet for water to borrow.

Water is what makes Earth livable,

Let us foster life on this planet by planning 

a development that is sustainable.

Water, the elixir of life, they call.
