“Déjà Vu”

Inside us there dwells a soul,
a consciousness, that makes us whole.
That part of us, is forever hid;
the very essence of our id.
But what is it we can not see,
that shapes the self we wish to be?
What guides us, when we’re flying blind,
and balances the heart and mind?

For though, invisible to all,
some spirits large, while others small;
your soul is your subconscious thought,
for lessons learned, and morals taught.
Those passions which we hold inside,
and vulnerabilities we hide.
Those reasons which we can’t explain,
the Safe, which guards our joy and pain.
The soul is how two hearts relate,
when words cannot communicate.

How do we know the soul exists?
We don’t! But yet, great hope persists,
that we’re more than only mortal;
life won’t end, but be a portal,
taking us to lasting glory!
Surely death won’t end our story!
There must be meaning to our lives,
There should be something that survives!

Is this what lives on, beyond death,
escaping after our last breath?
And if it can, where does it go?
Up and above? Or down below?
Or does it simply leave to roam,
in search to find another home?
A fresh young heart to occupy;
a brand new start, another try.
A spirit shouting—I’m alive!
“I must move on! I will survive!

Yet, when souls find a newborn mind,
they leave their history behind.
Forgetting all the lessons learned,
the love once felt, the knowledge earned;
all memory lost of your past life,
No happiness, nor pain or strife!
Your future self? A different you,
but now and then, a “déjà vu”,
will tease your mind, to wonder who,
you were, before your spirit flew!
