Count your many blessings

Why must a homeless destitute,

Evoke, in us, a sense of gratitude?

Why must a hungry child on the street,

Make us appreciate the food we eat?

Why must a person in torn dress,

Make us value the clothes we possess?

Why must a lonely, old woman on the roadside,

Remind us of the loving company we have beside?

Why must the death of someone,

Be a wake-up call to value the living ones?

Why must the sights and sound of misfortune and pain,

Make us introspect and realise the blessings we have gained?

Why must the troubles of others,

Make ours seem small?

Why can’t we ignore the trivial worries and sorrows,

And be gratified for the wonderful past and a promising tomorrow?

Why must we focus on the few things we can’t obtain,

When we are blessed with a whole lot more, to revel in?

The sooner we appreciate the goodness around and feel blessed,

The universe will align and multiply our joys and give us the best!
