Or maybe there are many songs

That tell you it is better to hurt than feel numb

That it is better to be sad than feel nothing at all

I beg to disagree

That sadness is a substance

Something like lava

Thick and Viscous

I don’t want to painstakingly scoop it out

Spoon after spoon of liquid fire

Until I’m empty

But now that I’m hollow

Maybe I can fill myself up

With color or with sand or with shrapnel

The possibilities are endless
