An Ode To Winter
An Ode To Winter
Winter, what do I tell you
As you bid farewell
To fly in another hibernation?
Forcing another gloomy contemplation.
Dust
Like a familiar tapestry before the eyes
Mixed with smog that could smother
But, in truth, not really a bother
'Cause suffocating we all are, since birth.
Gray
Isn't it all?
So tell me the balcony and the hole in the wall
Gray leaves on gray branches on trees not gay
But gray too is a colour, isn't it?
They never seem to say.
The Cold
So cold but not a shard of discomfort
Layers and layers, over and under
That rest in peace under an army of duvets
God may try but could never replicate.
Breeze
Blowing gently, spreading love and dust
Causing the clouds to bow, invisibly but.
It's a shiver so welcome, running up this spine of mine
Hairs do rise too, in an applaud so fine.
Hate
Surrounds you, undeserved and unjust
Based on baseless love for colours robust.
Hate for the stupid perception of gray
And the longing for the gaudy flowers you slay.
Spring
Holier-than-thou will come, no wonder
Its inevitability tearing your traces asunder.
But they rejoice, oblivious to their blunder.
Spring's a false friend,
Just a gateway to summer hell.
Winter
Don't worry, you've got a lover or two.
Begin to pine for year-end, and I do too.
Let the bears wake now, foolishly, cursed.
And all the jubilant masochists be burned.
Do hurry, your friendly zephyr's all I long for
Free of those creatures of heat and summer sun.
Oh, how I love what they call 'gloom'!
Take this, Winter, my billet-doux to you.
