A White Thin Line

A White Thin Line

A thin white line

And miles of barbed wire

Are what separate us

But a journey on foot, Lahore sun, suitcases in tow

Was all it took

To get to the other half

Of a broken whole;

It could have been home,

Take a breath in

And hold it.

Slow down your breathing

Focus

On wind

Rustling through your hair

Just for a moment

Be in this moment

Because it will never come back.

The fissure in the center

Is as imaginary as

The reality of our geography

Our history

Creeps through in visions, sounds, smells.

Separation is only a state of mind

And State versus State

Our stories are the same

Our lives alike,

But these fissures are deep

And we fell through the cracks
