What if you could help your child understand their own emotions – before a meltdown begins?
StoryMirror invites parents, caregivers, and family storytellers to explore a gentle but powerful question:
How do you teach a child to pause, reflect, and choose wisely – when big feelings take over?
Inspired by the warm, wise storytelling of Aahana and the Two Brains by Avinash Parhi, this contest challenges you to write a short story from a parent's perspective – or a story you would read with your child.
This time, your story revolves around a single, transformative moment: the moment you understand your child better.
- Maybe it was a small incident – a sudden tantrum, an unspoken fear, or a question you couldn't answer.
- Maybe it was the first time you truly saw the world through your child's eyes.
- That moment changed how you listen, how you respond, and how you guide.
You are the parent in the story. Do you write about a real moment from your own parenting journey? Do you create a fictional turning point where a parent finally "gets" their child? Do you show how that one moment of understanding opened the door to emotional balance and better choices?
This contest challenges you to write a short, gentle story (1000–2000 words) that captures the moment a parent understands their child better – and how that understanding helps both grow.
Show us patience. Show us wisdom. Show us the power of truly seeing your child.
