Crossing Bridges

Crossing Bridges

2 mins
163

The rickety bridge

Hung high above

Connecting the cliffs

Trying to reach each other!

She stood on one edge

And He on the other

The rickety bridge in between

Swaying with the wind

Crumbling at times

Threatening to fall apart

And break into pieces

Any moment

Across the rickety bridge!

She saw him

He stood

On the other cliff

Looking away!

She thought aloud

Should she call out

Should she risk it

Should She walk across

The rickety bridge!

She looked down then

And saw her foot

Shackled to Her side of the cliff

With a chain...

If only

She could walk so far

If only

She could cross the bridge

Would He untie her

And help her escape!

She stood

And thought

While He looked away

Should she ask for help

Should she tell her story

Should she trust Him!

And Then He Turned

Caught her eye

Smiled!

And then

There was light

And sound

And music.

He extended her hand

And She felt herself move

Mindlessly

Step by step!

She moved forward

On the rickety bridge

Step by step

Holding on to ropes

Stumbling a little

Falling sometimes

The shackle got tighter

But she moved

Knowing now

She could escape

Could breathe again

With her eyes fixed

On His outstretched hand

She moved!

The rickety bridge

Moaned and creaked

And she reached the last step

And stopped...

Finally

Exalted

Exhilarated

Now everything

Would be better again!

He stepped onto the bridge

Touched the shackle on her foot

It melted and fell away

She smiled and

So did He.

Hesitantly

She extended her Hand

He touched it

And then

She flinched back

As her fingers

filled with blood...

He had cut her

With His Touch

He had burnt Her

With His fingers

As She stood staring

At her blood soaked hand

Disbelief clouding her eyes

He stepped back

Onto His side

Untied the ropes of

The rickety bridge

And let her go!

And the bridge, it fell

Piece by piece

Slowly

Leaving her

Standing

And then Falling

Slowly

Like sand

Slipping from the fingers

She closed Her eyes

And felt herself fall

Then she opened them

And Saw Him smile above

One last time

But the light went out

So did the sound

And the music

Silence filled

Slowly

Creeping inside her!

They both fell

The Rickety Bridge

And Her!

Fell Far below

Lost in the abyss of the cliffs

Now the cliffs

Would never meet!
