Finally, Devi Durga- Mother of all,

So, at last, you reply to our call.

Breeze is there, catkin swings,

Clouds move slowly with their wings.

Green are paddies, brimming with joys,

Peasants are free now, putting their loys.

Children are waiting for a new dress,

Jaba and Jui are blooming now fresh.

For you Devi, decorating new seat,

Covered in white, clean and neat.

We are always waiting for the whole through the year,

With hope, excitement, joy, and cheer.

Mother as you come, make us feel,

To erase evil and selfishness to kill.

Bless us to worship you with devotion and care,

And fill us family love so we can share.

This festival is very close to our hearts,

Durga puja is our life’s integral part.

Being a Bengali, this festival is

much awaited.

The approaching of this festival fills joy in the air.

The elaborate statues and pandals dazzle our eyes,

The invocation of the goddess is a beautiful sight.

Goddess Durga comes visiting with her children,

The sight makes people bow their head in reverence.

We find our beloved goddess among us,

The chanting and worshipping mesmerize the onlookers.

Everyone decks themselves in new clothes,

The fervor and excitement are beyond control.

The beat of the drums can make our feet dance,

The cheerful days just rushes past.

When the day of leaving for the goddess draws near,

Our hearts are filled with unshed tears.

With a heavy heart, we bid our goddess goodbye,

She returns soon among us, the next year, is our prayer,

For Bengalis, Durga Puja is not just a festival,

It’s an emotion which has all its crests and troughs.
