Watching

Watching the news, I thought I had a sense of understanding when tragedies happened. Pain, sadness, anger…empathy.

What’s that phrase? There but for the grace of God go I? But tragedy’s not particular about where it lands. Especially the day a drunk driver crashed into our home.

Don’t get me wrong, God’s grace was present- Mom and I had vacated the point of entry mere minutes before it happened.

But there’s something about seeing a mangled vehicle where your bed is supposed to be… plaster and broken items scattered about. In that devastating moment, I realized I had understood nothing.
