THE FOOLISH BEGGAR

Once there lived an old beggar named Amit Singh in the town of Varanasi. He sat at one street corner of the city and begged the passer-by to give him some help. But very few gave him any alms. Besides, there were too many beggars in the same place. Therefore, he decided to try his luck in some other part of the city where he was not known. Here he decided to try another method.

As he sat there a gentleman happened to pass by. The old beggar pretended that he was dumb and asked for alms with gestures. The gentleman felt pity for the old man and was about to give him some money. Just then another beggar who was sitting nearby shouted saying that the beggar was not dumb and that he was only pretending. At this the old beggar got angry and began to shout at the other beggar. The gentleman realized that the old beggar was indeed a cheat and went away from there without giving any alms
