Shabari

According to mythological references Shabari was Bhilani from the caste and her name was Shramana. It is said that he was married to a vicious and tyrannical man, fed up with which Shramana took refuge in the ashram of sage Mathang.

According to the second belief, when his father married her, he had developed disinterest in seeing animal sacrifices during that time.

In the ashram of the sage Mathang, Shabari served the sages and listened to the discourse. Prabhu Bhakti was awakened in his mind by staying there. Matang Rishi was the Guru of Shabri. The girl who was born with the blessings of Mother Durga to Matang Rishi was Matangi Devi. The ninth of the ten Mahavidyas is Mahavidya Devi Matangi. This goddess is the goddess of the tribals of India.
