The Brightest Fell
The Brightest Fell

What do you want from me?
Why won’t you set me free?
Why must your sweat-slick skin be pressed to mine?
As your pulse rate dips, your heartbeat skips
And your tears taste of brine.
You once were the brightest star,
That the night-sky illumined.
Your voice bore me through the hours,
When in the arms of nightmares I lay entwined.
You wrote for me a thousand songs,
Or maybe they were never mine.
Could’ve been love or narcotics,
Or the site wherein they intertwine.
And now my shirt’s stained with your sins
As you gaze at me with unseeing eyes
Tomorrow, they’ll say – the brightest fell
But tonight, I’ll sleep in your fractured light.
