He turned the hourglass once
And watched the red sand fall.
When the last of it had fallen
He turned it and backed to the wall.
He held the blade and tore his wrist.
All the while his eyes lay on the red sand.
While the blood oozed out, he clenched his fist.
The last grain fell, but it did not go as planned.
He cursed his damned luck and flinched.
He lurched and threw the hourglass.
While the glass broke and sand dispersed,
He fell and drifted to an unsatisfied pass.
