India Moving Ahead

We are in the,

Seventh decade of independence,

Somewhere we did better,

Somewhere mediocre,

But struggle goes on,

To achieve new milestones.

Today if any nation,

Wants to be among,

Called community of developed,

It has to be in all fields,

 Sports in one such,

It makes the reputation high.

In initial years,

Sports was not our priority,

The resources were restricted,

And we have to mitigate hunger,

But we had a shine here and there,

Hockey was our favourite.

It single handedly,

Went onto bring laurels,

Till seventies,

Than a sudden turn came,

Astro turf was introduced,

The game became more physical,

And less on skills.

Our players were known,

For skills,

But not of their physical strength,

So downward journey begin.

The one Gold,

Which we use to get,

Was also deprived.

Than Asian games were held,

Sporty environment was created,

Infrastructure was built,

Even our economy,

Started doing better,

Now our Government has,

More money to be in hands,

To spend.

Many programs were launched,

Sports authority of India came into being,

Encouraging offers were given,

To those who bring laurels,

The mood changed,

Even parents start encouraging,

Their kids,

To take sport.

The academies were built,

More scientific approach,

Was adopted,

More professionalism was brought,

The Government and corporate funding was increased,

And lately results seems,

To be arriving.

Though we have marched,

A head,

Still getting one or two golds,

Therefore long was to travel,

Before our name,

Arrives in first ten,

Across the planet,

And we are called,

The sporting power house.

But here again,

Funding is the main issue,

Both Govt and the Pvt sector,

Has to come forward,

Every state must have,

One sports university,

In which all the disciplines,

Has to be under one roof,

Be it from,

Any sporting field.

Than and than only,

In next twenty years,

We will be,

Near our objective,

And tricolour,

Will be flying high,

In every sporting arena.
