Women who live in villages are on the path to prosperity, with several of them successful in running more than one micro enterprise. These are the champions of the women self help groups that have been set up as part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission. With skill training and financial planning, 99 percent of women repay their loans.

In Season 2, Episode 2 of Spotlight with Sandhya, IAS officer Dr. BR Mamatha, who has been very closely involved in developing women’s self help groups in Karnataka when she was the Mission Director of Sanjeevini, the National Rural Livelihood Mission of Karnataka, talks to Sandhya Mendonca about this impressive transformation.

Dr. Mamatha is currently the Mission Director, Sakala and was Mission Director, Sanjeevini when she initiated a book on the success stories of NRLM in Karnataka, ‘Sanjeevini -A Powerful Enabler’, published by Raintree Media.
