பழங்குடி மக்கள் தனித்துவமான கலாச்சாரங்கள், மரபுகள், மொழிகள் மற்றும் அறிவு அமைப்புகள் என்று பரந்த பன்முகத்தன்மையைக் கொண்டவர்கள். நிலங்கள் தான் அவர்களின் உயிராக இருக்கிறது. அவர்களின் சொந்த உலகக் கண்ணோட்டங்கள் அடிப்படையில் வளர்ச்சியை பற்றி மாறுபட்ட கருத்துக்களை வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.
