She has a Doctorate of Philosophy from Department of Psychology, University of Delhi to her credit.
She has served as Member, Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), Government of NCT of Delhi for two terms and delved into myriads of issues concerning children. DCPCR is a State level body created under an Act of Parliament, India to initiate necessary and appropriate steps in protecting the rights of children as enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
‘Subjective wellbeing of institutionalized children’, ‘children of prisoners’, ‘substance abuse’ and ‘mental health care of children’ are some of the publications to her credit during this tenure.
Previously, she was a Member, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), East District, Delhi for two terms and looked into the matters pertaining to children in need of care and protection. In CWC, as a Member, she functioned as a Bench of Magistrates. She has taught ‘psychology’ and ‘organizational behavior’ at undergraduate levels in various colleges under University of Delhi and Indraprashta University, Delhi. She has also served as Deputy Director, RCI, under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. As Founder Director of SEWAK, an NGO established in 1998, she has been serving the needy, deserving and underprivileged sections of the society for about two decades.
“Punishment and the Prison: Indian and International Perspectives”, an edited book by SAGE
publication, contains a piece of her mind, ‘Reality and Reforms in Tihar Central Jail’ focusing on issues relating to inmates of Tihar Prison, Delhi, India. She has a number of research publications to her credit in various reputed national and international journals.
