Let's Meet And Talk

Let's Meet And Talk

During one of my telephonic talks with my closest best friend from school days, we tried decoding the reason behind fewer talks and meets and more of excuses and cancellation of plans between people nowadays.

We wondered that unlike earlier days when we were able to meet frequently, our plans to meet were not materializing these days. Last-minute planning, last-minute cancellations, the uncertainty of dates and times, has become a known constant of our lives. We were just not able to zero-in on any day or date with the assurance of not having to pull out last minute. We are not able to fix a day even a few months in advance let alone sticking to it when the time comes. And it is not just with friends, even with our cousins, relatives, or anybody that mattered, we just never seemed to make things work out well when it comes to meeting or sometimes even talking over the phone.

Ok. Our lives have changed. We have become busy with our routine. But to think of it, we are still just in a routine. Our times are fixed for everything. None of us are living a life where we don't know what we will be doing on the day or a few weeks or months down the line. Of course, life is uncertain and anything good or bad can come up which can deviate our plans and make us plan something else, but that is life. That time is the future we don't know. So it is better to leave it for the future.

So what stops us from committing ourselves to our own people? Why are we not breaking our routine? Why are we always ready with our standard answer of " let's decide when the time comes". And then the time comes and goes.

And so while talking we realized that earlier we used to not just plan our meeting but meeting each other was our priority. It didn't matter whether it was a pre-planned meet or an impromptu decision, but we met. We met because it mattered to us. All other things could be done together on the way or could wait.

But now our mundane routine and the rush to finish and tend to our own things have become our priority to such an extent that we are so clueless about how to take out time for our own important people in our schedule. Whatever spare time we get, we want it for ourselves in the name of our space because all we need is to silence our noisy mind. If we just took that time out to be with our people, our minds will not be that noisy anymore. The more we talk, the less noisy our minds will be. More calm we will be.

And so it was decided that we shall look up the calendar and fix a date and not change on it for useless excuses. We decided to make each other priority. We did succeed. From pre-planned birthday celebrations together to impromptu movie outings and lunch we managed all. And we got our old times back.

I shared my same thoughts with one of my cousins and we have made a pact of visiting each other monthly. And I'm sure we will be able to keep up our promise as we know and cherish the times we grew up together.

I am normally not a person to make a new year or any resolutions. But this year has been a little different. What started as a thought to make an effort in going back to my old self, finding myself has led me to people who were just out of sight. But never out of mind.

See you soon...
