THE DEAD, THE DOCTOR AND GHOSTS

(Horror Story)

(Part - V)

Doctor Vishal’s Childhood Incident: A Mind Block

Vishal stayed with his family members at Atmakur Village, near a graveyard. He was 13 years old then. The graveyard was not having any compound wall. No street lights were seen, no security was available for the graveyard and no staff. This graveyard was connected to two streets. People and residents used to travel through the middle of this graveyard, for any work. After 6 pm, the entire place used to become calm and quiet. All streets were empty to look at. People never used to come outside their houses. There was darkness everywhere. People were afraid to move on the streets after evening. People were under the impression that ghosts, devils and Satan move around this graveyard and on the streets. These bad element things had an impact in the minds of Atmakur village people. People had a psychological feel and fear too. People were not brave enough to move through this graveyard. People were very much afraid of these evil elements.

In those days, there was not much of population. Only few people used to move on the village streets. There was no alternative for people except to stay on these streets at Atmakur village. Few people were bound to stay with their families. People were living for the sake of their life. Life was moving through an uneasy environment. No other way, except to live on these streets.

Vishal was studying in 8th class then. He had very few friends. Those friends used to reside at the other side of the street. Only one or two scooters were seen plying. No cars were seen then. Only cycle-rickshaws, but countable on fingers. All lanes and by-lanes were very small. All the places looked calm, quiet and silent. All the places and streets were mostly seen as open lands with dirt and drainage water. Everywhere dog's and pig's menace were seen. Only few shops were seen here and there. No business was seen on these streets. People were unable to pass through these open lands. Most people, where Vishal's family used to stay, had left for other places and villages. People of Atmakur village used to feel that it was better to settle down at other villages to avoid fear gripped life.

During holidays, Vishal and his friends used to play cricket in this graveyard. Few children even used to fly kites from this graveyard during festivals. For going to other streets, one had to pass through this graveyard only by walk.

On one day, Vishal was asked by his mother to do a certain work as Vishal had to go to other street. The time was 8 pm then. For Vishal, it had become inevitable to carry out the assignment given by his mother. Vishal, being 13 years old, was unable to understand ‘what the fear was’.

Vishal said, "Mummy, I am going to the other street through this graveyard. I will come back soon."

Mother told, "Okay Vishal, go, but don’t go here and there, come back soon."

Vishal started moving out from his house and made a full stretched walk through the graveyard to reach the other street. Vishal was alone and nobody accompanied him because of night and darkness.

Vishal while walking through the graveyard had confronted an experience. One spirit like thing, milky white in colour, with a saree or one could say a ‘ghost’ like shape, with legs not visible, a fish type shape, moving here and there around Vishal, started creating nuisance with a special incredible sound. Maybe it was a ‘ghost’ playing with Vishal or creating a problem for Vishal, was not known. Vishal was unable to understand what was happening. He was observing the happenings. What was going on, a fear had gripped Vishal, he just started moving slowly in the graveyard. He was trying to reach the other street. His body just became stiff. He was unable to put his steps forward.

After moving a little distance further in the graveyard, Vishal felt the same experience. This time another ghost with the same specifications of the first spirit was confronted by him. Though the season was winter, Vishal was sweating. This time, the spirit like ghost came to him, made fun of him, played around him with little understandable language and incredible sound. Vishal’s back side had one ‘spirit-like-ghost’, front side had another and his mind was blocked. He was in fear and was unable to speak anything. He felt very uneasy in this situation. What to do next? He was unable to judge, because of his age. Actually, he was an intelligent guy and could understand well, what a normal guy could not. He gave a serious thought and decided that these spirit like things were to be either ghosts or devils. Vishal, immediately made his walk a bit faster. He made his physical fitness into top gear. Still he could not make a faster move and felt like a shock. His entire body was sweating. He started looking here and there.

He thought that the work was given by his mother, so he had to complete it and return back home. He was very stubborn. He came out from his phobia and just gave a signal to his physical fitness and mind. He thought to run away from this place like P.T. Usha or like any other sprinter. Accordingly, he started running as fast as any sprinter. His run was equal to Sprinters’ Race. Had Vishal started this type of sprint run, along with horses in the Sprinters’ Race, then Vishal could have come first than any other horse. Such was his running. Vishal had a scintillating run. His total body was sweating. He had small wounds. But, at last he reached the other street. He completed the task given by his mother. While returning back, with the same speed, spirit and scintillating run. No looking back here and there. Just running like a horse galloping with blinkers. His heart-beats were as fast as any high BP patient. He came back to his house. This type of incident was first of its kind to him.

He never slept for few days. Some psychologist thought that the boy was too sensitive. He did not go to school the next day. Vishal’s parents asked him, "What happened Vishal?" He explained them what had happened at the graveyard on that night. Parents took the incident lightly though parents could guess about some type of bad elements might have caused some ‘psycho-like bad spirit attack’. After one week, he became normal.

Vishal went to school, as normal. But, his experience was a special one. Never before he had faced this type of experience. He told these happenings to his friends in the school. Friends did not believe these things and over-looked him. But, Vishal had challenged his friends on this. He asked his friends to accompany to graveyard at night on one day. His friends agreed to this to verify about the reality. That day, at 8 pm, Vishal and three of his friends, went to the graveyard.

Same incident. Same ‘ghost’ like shapes. Same incredible sounds, fear gripped boys, looking here and there. All four boys were worried very much. One old dilapidated bungalow was adjacent to graveyard, where from some incredible sounds, music, shouts were heard. Dogs were barking. Pigs were moving here and there. All sorts of insects, mosquitoes and flies were there. These incidents made Vishal and his three friends to come to a conclusion to leave this place. They all started running to reach their homes. All of them dispersed with fast run without speaking to each other.

All the four boys told about this incident to their friends. The entire village came to know about this incident. The news of this, spread like wildfire. Most of the people stopped moving through this graveyard at nights. Because, all sorts of dead bodies were cremated during day time, few Aghoras used to come to this graveyard, all types of dog's barking, made an uneasy atmosphere during day time. Above all, Aghoras' special acts, like drinking, smoking, taking narcotic drugs and speaking as they like, enjoying all sorts of nonsense making in the graveyard, made the atmosphere so horrible.

These incidents had a strong impact in Vishal’s mind. He thought that, "Are there any ghosts or devils that exist?" A thought really came in his mind. Days were rolling, Vishal completed his 10th class with first division, as he was too intelligent. For higher studies, he went to the city to pursue his further studies. He completed his M.B.B.S. course, in due course of years.
