The terrifying Mount Agnes

It was a day like any other, but when I woke up in the luxurious hotel room which was full of American items my mom told me we were going to hike up an amazing and beautiful mountain called Mount Agnes which had a reputation for having no natural disasters. It sounded exciting since I was also going to climb it with my 2 cousins who were as excited as me. The next hour we left towards the mountain. It took half an hour to reach the mountain, we waited for another ten minutes in the hot sun, but it felt like an hour; for my cousins to arrive. Finally they came!!! They told us they had a little trouble while coming as it had rained and they had to stop.

I was huffing and puffing whilst climbing, but finally I reached the first station and took a seat down on a rock waiting for everyone. I looked at the view and saw a mountain which looked like a painting on a blue canvas. A thought popped up inside my head' was Mount Agnes also blue? But I didn’t have time to think since my family came.

Anyway, we continued up the huge Mountain when suddenly my nose started to bleed, blood dripped of my nose like water. My mom and dad stopped even though my cousins and their parents continued on. We had fallen behind but I managed to go faster and was almost catching up when my nose started to bleed again. Since I had run ahead my family couldn’t see the nose bleed but it soon stopped bleeding and I ran up ahead to catch up with my cousins. Suddenly, hail and rain started pouring. It was just like how my cousins had told me about how it had rained before. I ran and ran not knowing what to do nervous, scared. Water gushed through the whole mountain. There was a storm brewing up, I could sense the danger.

I looked at my surroundings and found a ditch, I ran towards it to avoid being dragged away by the gushing water. I dived hoping I would be in the ditch in the next second. I took a blind leap of faith and when I opened my eyes found myself in the ditch,"PHEW"! Saw people running helter skelter.

I kept praying that the water wouldn’t come near me. After a few hours of staying in there, I realised I didn’t know where my family was, I didn’t imagine the worst ! I hoped they had made it to the bottom even though I had to still be in the ditch because the rains still hadn’t stopped. I just hoped I would get through this!

I knew that sleeping is a big risk so I tried to stay awake but my eyes denied and I fell asleep. I went to sleep not knowing what was going to happen, I was scared or rather terrified!

When I woke up the next morning I was ALIVE, nothing had happened to me. But there was water everywhere! I waited and waited; my heart racing up and down. A few hours later I realised I had not eaten for a long long time and I could hear my stomach growling. I peeped out of the ditch and saw that the water levels had gone down and felt safe to crawl out of that ditch.

As I crawled out of the ditch, I thought to myself that there might have been a shelter somewhere because I had noticed many people go rushing down the mountain. I waited there for a while thinking my mom or dad would show up but they didn’t.

I ran as fast as I could towards the ground. When I reached down I saw ambulances, scared people, wounded people, some crying and in the corner I saw my family. I rushed towards them and as soon as they saw me they ran towards me with tears in their eyes.

I was so happy!

When we got into the car I told them how I had survived the night. It turns out the people I saw in the night were actually my family! When we got home I just fell asleep and when I woke up the next morning felt good to be safe and surrounded by family.

We continued having a good time in Rockies and kept that scary past behind us which sometimes does haunt me…...
