A For Apple

There once was a boy named Peter. He lived with his parents in a cottage near a forest of Pembrokeshire. His parents worked at an apple orchard which was owned by Lady Windsor; who was kind and generous.

Every evening when his parents got back from work, they brought an apple for Peter without fail. Peter was not very fond of apple but his parents insisted heat it after his meal. Almost every evening he hid the apple in his pocket andthrew it at the backyard from the window of his room at night. Day after day, the rotten apples piled up outside his window which invited the wild rodents, flies and other insects to feed on them.

The yard was infected with rodents; his mother's kitchen garden was polluted by the presence of rodents. There were no more vegetables growing in the yard. As a result of the outbreak, there was nothing much left for Peter and his parents to eat. Peter's father worked harder day and night to feed the family.

To worsen the situation, Peter fell sick. His parents were saddened at the circumstances which fell upon them. As Peter's health got worse, his father couldn't help but ask for financial help from Lady Windsor. Being a lady with remarkable generosity, she somehow managed to explain how she heard about his son's illness and how she could help the situation. The following evening as peter's mother wandered around the yard, she saw the apple seeds scattered all over the manure which she kept for her plants. The moment she realised her son's misconduct, she explained it to her husband. Peter's father was furious but he calmed his anger. He went to Lady Windsor and explained everything.

They had a conversation for a while. After a few minutes, Peter's father had a smile as a sign of appreciation and as for Lady Windsor, she nodded with a sense of assurance, and said "Doctor Charleston can cure him." "Certainly, Madam" responded Peter's father. The next morning, the doctor visited Peter.

The doctor conveyed to the parents that he would like the boy examined to determine if he had to be given VITAMIN injections. He paused and explained that he was certain he should be given injection every day. Peter was under doctor's orders to be given vitamins each day. Peter was in a panic when he realised that he would be forced into getting injections every day. As much as it pained Peter to admit it, he knew he had committed a mistake. As the new dawn broke, he admitted to his mother; the truth. She smiled and hugged him. "Apples contain lots of vitamin", and she winked.

"Mama, I want an apple", expressed Peter. Ever since the doctor had stopped visiting him. Not the thought, but the pain. There was no more Vitamin deficiency. He was a healthy boy with an apple by his side every evening. He thought it was the blessing that the doctor never ever again visited him

Moral of the story: An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
