Tangled in the WEB

It was Saturday when the most horrifying incidence in my life took place.

My parents were going to visit an old friend of theirs and were going to return late at night. I was left all alone. I saw the opportunity and called my best friend “Pratik” over to have some company.

We played lots of games and even watched a movie together. Then we realized that it was late evening and we were very hungry, so we ordered a pizza over the phone.

We ate pizza, that’s when my friend mentioned about the dark web. I wasn’t surprised as my friend was into such weird and mysterious stuff. We went into my room and my friend opens the dark web on my laptop. There were very weird and crazy things going on the dark web. There was a live chat going on and we joined the chat just to have some fun. The person we were chatting to was very mysterious and sounded like a weirdo. After a while, he started a live stream that’s when things started to get a bit messed up. The person started sticking sticky notes on the wall, it said “do you want to have some fun?”, and we said “yes” to that person.

And that was a big mistake. Then the user tuned the camera towards the neighborhood, that’s when I was surprised because I could see the place from my window, the place was nearby place in our locality. Slowly the things started to get creepy. The person struck another sticky note mentioning my name. I and Pratik got scared because we didn’t mention our names during chat and never used real names over web.

We were scared. The camera was pointed towards our building. The user then struck another sticky note mentioning my building name and apartment number. Then another note appeared, and it said open the door, that’s when we heard the bang on my door.

We both headed towards my entrance door and tried to see through the Door hole viewer without making any noise. We found a man with a hood covering his head is standing in front of my door.

We were scared and thought of making noise to attract the neighbor and soon realized that our neighbor’s apartment is locked as they are out of town for function.

However, the lessons we learned from our parents and teachers to not get panic and think rationally helped us to concentrate and take stock of the situation.

We decided to call the police helpline and started searching for the phone, which eventually we kept near the computer in the bedroom. As we went toward collecting our phone, the electricity in the apartment was blacked out. For a moment we thought it is caused by the person standing outside, but this may be caused by the Electricity department due to load shading of power supply.

Somehow, we reached the bedroom and were able to get hold of our phone, to dial the “100” helpline number. Luckily our prayer was answered quickly and police on the phone assured help within a

short time.

We went to our window to look down to see the help coming our ways. And within 20 minutes we heard knock on the door. We were skeptical to answer the door knock, however, we built up the courage to ask “who is there?”. “Police” the assuring sound came from the other side of the door. And we open the door to end the turmoil we face from the past few hours.

We narrated the whole incidence to the police and tried to show the chat, however tracing the history of online chat on Dark web is difficult.

Luckily police believed our story. Meanwhile, our parents also arrived. We got a scolding and precautionary advice from the police and parents.

Next day we went to the police station upon call from Police. We found that the information and detail provided were used by police to trace the person and he was located nearby the locality. The person has a history of stalking and online fraud. Upon our complaint police arrested him.

I and my friend learned a lesson that we should be extra careful over the Web. Otherwise, it takes no time to get tangled in the Web to be a Victim.
