The Unfortunate She...

Joana was excited. Her parents allowed her this time to go to the camp with her college friends. Otherwise, she was so unlucky to have permission to go out with her friends. She packed her bag, set up the alarm on her cell phone, as she would have to wake up early. She needed to reach the meeting point early in the morning. Night arrived. Weaving her dreams, she slept.

She could not have even imagined, how unlucky she was. The alarm did not beep, she could not wake up on time. She realized, she forgot to change the mode from silent to normal one.

“If I take the bus till next stop, I can still catch my group.” She called up her friend to wait for a few minutes at the next stop for her. She rushed to the bus stop. Hurriedly, caught the bus. To her dismay, the bus skidded off the road and unexpected happened. All the passengers were severely injured, immediately taken to a nearby hospital. She also got a few scratches, but she didn’t need to be hospitalized. She realized, it was not over. Her misfortune was with her, like always.

“You are weeping since morning. I heard you.” Ginni, the girl from the adjacent room in the hostel, spoke candidly.

“Why does it happen to me. Why I am so unlucky, nothing works for me.” her stupid talks made no sense to Ginni.

Ginni wondered if there's something wrong with Joana. Why was she talking that way.

“So what, if you couldn't go to camp? Look at me, I am not going as well.” Ginni tried to console Joanna.

“Go away…” Joanna spat at her.

Angrily, Ginni left the room.

Joanna was not in a mood to tell her, it was not this incident. It was the series of events, that made her realize, how unfortunate she was.

Joanna lay awake in her bed the whole day, tossing and turning on the bed.

She remembered her first camp trip, many years ago. She also had her parents’ permission, like other children of her class. That was a train journey. Nobody wanted her to be in the camp, as she was considered as unlucky. But she ignored those remarks. After a few minutes only, the train flipped off the track and crashed into a river. It was a horrifying incident. Other students blamed her for this mishap.

“You know swimming very well, that’s why you didn’t get hurt at all. Otherwise, for the rest of us, the lifeguards and ambulance were required. Because of your misfortune, we all suffered a lot.”

That was the first time, she started thinking of herself as an unfortunate one. Though there were a series of events that happened in her life before as well, which made others think of her as an unlucky person.

  

Joanna realized, she brought the bad fortune in this world. To save others from her bad luck, she decided to end her life.

She brought poison from the medical store. She gulped the whole of it. However, luck never seemed to be on her side, she failed there too. By mistake, her packet was exchanged with another one having energy drink inside it.

The next day news headlines showed, “Man lost life due to the negligence of Chemist. The medical store will be sealed.”
