He belonged to a small village. Eldest of all, he was mischievous but hardworking and intelligent. He had good acting skills. He used to perform small skits in his college or in small village functions. Ganpat, 17yrs, the first child of his Mom and her favorite too. But he never took studies seriously. Instead, he used to roam around with his friends. He used to go to college but never attended any lectures. The college's principal once called Ganpat's Mom and told her everything about her son. She was unhappy after hearing this and decided to speak to Ganpat.

After Ganpat was back home she asked him, "Hey dear, how was your day at college today?". He hesitated for a moment and started lying to his Mom. His Mom knew her son might have not attended lectures but she never imagined that her son would lie to her. At once, she stopped him, held his hand and asked him to get out of her house. "Today, you have broken my trust and if you have any respect for me then u need to prove it by your actions and not the word", she uttered. Ganpat loved his Mom more than his life. He said, "I am sorry Mom, I lied to you but I did not want to hurt your feelings by telling you the truth. I don't want to study because I have no interest in studying. I want to make my career in acting Mom." Hearing this, his Mother became more worried. Being eldest in the family it was his responsibility to look after his siblings. Instead of that, Ganpat was thinking of making a career in acting. She was very angry and at the same time worried about Ganpat and her other children. She kept thinking about who will take care of them after she is gone. She finally took a decision and told Ganpat in a bold but soft voice, " Look Ganpat, you are my first son. After your father's death, I thought it is you who will take care of your brothers. But the way you are talking now, not attending lectures, being irresponsible, your this careless attitude will not only harm you, but it will ruin our family as well. I may sound rude now but I don't want you to stay here and ruin your life. You want to make a career in acting right. Ok, I give you one chance. Take this money, pack your bags and go and do what you want to do. But remember one thing, if you want to come back home, you need to be more responsible, and capable of taking care of your siblings. Until then neither I will show you my face nor I expect you to show your face to me". Saying this she gave him 20rs and asked him to leave immediately.

Tears were running from both of their eyes. It was very tough for her to ask her son to leave like this. But it was need of the hour. With a heavy heart, Ganpat left his house. He came to Mumbai. He had no money left with him, he did small jobs to cope with his basic needs. Of course, he did not get any chance to pursue his career in acting. But he used to perform small roles in theatre acting or used to be at backstage in small plays. But he knew, to look after his family, this was not enough. Now he realized the value of education, the value of his Mom. But it was late, there was no one with him. He had to face the world all by himself. Once during his theatre acting, he met a person "Raman" who used to work in GMK pharma company. Although, Ganpat was not qualified, still, Raman referred Ganpat for the packaging department in GMK pharma. And, Ganpat got placed in GMK pharmaceuticals. His monthly salary was 500rs which was sufficient at that time. He worked day and night, proved himself and the salary day came. He got his salary plus the overtime pay for which he worked. He was on cloud nine because it was time for him to return to his family.

He took off for a few days and booked his tickets for natives. It took 24 hrs for him to reach his village. And finally he reached. A cool breeze touched his face, it was greenery everywhere, the sound of the waterfalls was falling on his ears, he smelt the fragrance of the moist soil. He felt homely again. This time with tears of happiness rolling down his face, he entered his home. After 5 years of struggle, he saw his Mom. "Ma", he called her. His Mom was sitting on a chair weaving sweater. After hearing Ganpats voice, his Mom couldn't control her tears. She wanted to hold him, give him tight hug and never leave him alone again. But unfortunately, due to gangrene, her one leg till knee was cut. She turned towards Ganpat and started to cry like a small child. Ganpat saw her condition and came running towards her, cuddled her, gave her his first salary and was very ashamed of himself. Had he never lied to his Mom, not went in the wrong company of friends, attended his lectures properly, stayed in the same village, he could have prevented this to happen to his Mom. Unable to control his tears, he was crying loudly.

But his Mom was very happy to see her Son come back. Today her teachings were paid off. She took him close to herself and both cried a lot. She consoled him by saying nothing happened because of him. Few things are meant to happen and we need to accept it and move on.

Ganpat saw his Mom's condition and scared about the thought if gangrene could spread to another leg as well. He stood looking at his family for a moment, took his Mom in his arms and along with his siblings returned to Mumbai. He showed his Mom to all specialists to prevent any future damage and her other leg was saved. He now was more responsible than his Mom wished for. He bought a small house in Mumbai, took admissions in a govt school for his two brothers. He used to cook food, go office and then once back home, used to spend time with his Mom.

He made up for all those years he was away from his family.

Finally, all of them were happy but this happened only because of his Mom. Had she not taken a harsh decision at that time, Ganpat would not become a person what he turned today.

After all its well said by someone, "Gold, when beaten, Shines" and Ganpat proved it.
