When I Remember Kunti

It is either I am too sad, in a gloomy mood or I am going through some rough and tough phases in my life, I always remember Kunti the mother of Pandavas and the aunt of Lord Krishna who is the most powerful and influential lady in Mahabharata. Her devotion, or Krishna bhakti was at its peak. When I feel low, shattered and hopeless, I just talk to my  mother as she has the ultimate solution to my problems. After talking to her, I get inspired, get recharged and feel like a lioness. She is the storehouse of patience, courage and also devotion.

Maa always tells me "don't worry my child, God always gives pain and hardship to that person who is very close to Him and whom He loves a lot". And she keeps telling me that always remember one thing that God might have given you a lot of pain and suffering, but He will never leave you alone. He will always be there with you and then no one can do any harm to you. Nothing wrong will ever happen to you. Then she gives me the examples of Kunti, Draupadi, and Sudama the three strong characters from mythology who were famous for their genuine devotion for Lord Krishna.

Being so close to Krishna Sudama was in misery, in poverty, and he was not getting food to eat. He, along with his wife and children had to sleep in empty stomach. Still, he had never forgotten Krishna and it's because of his suffering only, he could get Krishna and all the time God was staying with him. After listening to maa, I get so much of courage and strength to understand that divine love and life.

After Sudama, she tells me about Draupadi the wife of Pandavas, the most powerful character in Mahabharata. Draupadi's love for Krishna was unconditional, she was the greatest devotee of Krishna. Still, she was forcefully brought to the court of Duryodhan when Yudhisthir had lost everything in the game of dice. Being the royal lady, the queen of Pandavas she was insulted, humiliated and was called a whore by the clan of Duryodhan for accepting five husbands. Even, the elderly person like Bhishma insulted her saying "now you can take 100 brothers".

Duryodhan told Draupadi to sit on his thigh and asked to disrobe her in-front of the court. Draupadi was praying Lord Krishna to protect her dignity and then suddenly, a miracle happened. More and more clothes appeared to protect her and she was not disrobed. In the end, Maa says "look, Draupadi was among Krishna's great devotees and she was very close to God. Still, she had suffered a lot. But, Krishna was always with her being her shield".

Then she concludes with the story of Kunti. She was the mother of Pandavas and aunt of Krishna. Kunti was famous for her Krishna bhakti. At the end of the Mahabharata war and victory of the Pandavas when Krishna was leaving them along with others Kunti was present there.

Everyone was in tears and it was a very emotional moment. Then Krishna asked Kunti to wish anything she wants. Surprisingly, Kunti said, "Kanha give me more and more pain, and tears, if I will be in pain, I shall remember you and You will be present". So, what else can be more precious than you?

Hence, knowingly Kunti had asked for pain and suffering only to get Krishna. In teary eyes, maa concludes the story by saying "you should be happy, if you are in pain, if you are facing difficulties and then only you can get Krishna." I don't know anything, but the moment I listen to her I forget my pain, my problems, and sufferings.
