Continued from Part 4

“Now gentleman, it is my turn to have a little practice.” No sooner did she say this, the muscular man ran away for his life.

What can I say now? It may sound a trite remark, but I have to say it. I was speechless. Would anyone believe this? I just witnessed a foreboding tragedy converting into a rapturous comedy.

The funny part was that I was a serious actor in that. It was hilarious. I was not aware, when did I get lost in reverie. It was broken abruptly with a sobbing sound. Edgy as I was, I looked around for there was no third person, apart from me and that girl. I found the girl sitting on the bench in a crouching posture. Her head was between her knees. I was pulverized and shattered. The gaiety was short-lived, I could not believe it. I was fidgety and didn’t know what to do. First I had to know the reason for her distress than only I could console her. I stood up and approached her.

“How are you?” I muttered. The sobbing stopped but she didn’t raise her head. “What did happen?” I entreated her with a suppliant face. This time she raised her head. I was forced to look into her eyes. I never did that before. This was one of the self-imposed proscriptions. Such things or ideas simply don’t occur to me. I consider them as flippant or frivolous activities. I was expecting some tears in those sorrowful eyes. But what I saw! It was ineffable. How those eyes could be part of her body. No mortal could ever be proprietorial for those eyes. Those were not eyes but two great, grand and majestic lakes.

I will put it simply. It was calm and serene ocean filled with whitish pale and crystal clear transparent fluid. I could see bottom of it but the depth was unfathomable. I had a shivering sensation. I was in mid of ocean with no support whatsoever. I was surfing without surf. The instinct of survival again came to my help and I was saved. I plucked my eyes against hers. It took some moments to regain my conscious. I heard of people contaminating rivers, lakes and even ocean. I can understand that to some extent. There is refinement going on every walk of life, be it urban development, industrialization, living lifestyle or other improvisations.

One thing is for sure, you can’t get a refined output without producing a waste. It may be because lack of belongingness towards these gifts of God. But think about your eyes. This is the gift of God that belongs to you only. This is very much your own. How could you contaminate that with greed, avarice, lust, cupidity, rapacity, fury, rage and the list goes on. In return, you  than expect serenity, calmness, tranquility, equanimity and again the list goes on. You can do anything with your any other part of your body. You are even free to play with your heart and mind. But just let your eyes unspoiled, I entreat you. God will take care of you as you are taking care of His precious gift that are eyes.

She indicated to me to sit beside her. I complied with little unease. She put her head on my shoulder as looking for support. I was greatly relieved; surely I was not the cause of her distress. I wanted to console her but how? I wanted to put my arms around her. Given her eccentricity, I was not sure about her reaction. I heard that girls are very particular about touching them. They usually exhibit a queer reaction. Sometimes they become even hysterical. Who knows, maybe she is a real karate woman. I palpitated a bit with this frightful idea. I decided to keep quiet as I did not want to take any chance with this unpredictable girl.

But the question was still unsolved, how to console her. Instead of touching her, I better say something I thought. “Did I hurt you?” I said. I was astounded. I did not expect this reaction in reply to an innocent query of mine. She started squalling like a little child. She put her arms around my shoulder and neck. I was not amused. She put all her weight on my neck through her arms. It was a sensation as I was being strangled. She was uncontrollable. I dared not to touch her. She was increasing her grip on me and at the same time increased the pitch of her stentorian cry. It was suffocating. I could not speak and was able to make only some guttural sound. I did not want to die that way. I thought, only God can save me. And God saved me.

She suddenly loosened her grip and sat straight giving an impression as if she was listening something. She was right; we heard the sound of a coming Bus. With alacrity, she caught me by my wrist and rushed towards the Bus. I didn’t stymie her prompt action. I was following her like a docile youngster. She swaggered towards the Bus. We lingered on watching people alight. She was still holding my hand. We entered the Bus. We were a little surprised looking at sparsely filled seats. The conductor enquired about our destination.

“Outer ring road”, I said

“No sir, you have to alight at next stop”.

“What?”, I literally cried.

“No problem, give us two tickets. We shall take another Bus from there”, said the girl. She took out the money from her purse and handed over to the conductor. I was stupefied. I didn’t have the courtesy even to offer money for tickets.
