Best Day Of My Life

Best Day Of My Life

Tiya decided to enjoy last day of her summer vacation as much as possible. Lying on her bed, she mentally prepared a to-do list, and quite unfortunately, almost all activities involved technology or social media in some way. For instance, watching television series, visiting a posh restaurant just for ordering Instagram worthy food items, clicking tons of selfies, posting "goodbye holidays and freedom" kinda statuses on Facebook, etc.

Tiya finally woke up. She brushed her teeth, and sipped hot chocolate made by her mother. On opening her smartphone, Tiya wailed for there was no internet connection. This was no less than a nightmare. She went on to turn on her 50-inch LED TV to find out that it was not functioning properly.

Irritated and grieved, Tiya was on the verge of crying. She went to balcony, and a splash of greenery, abundant sunshine, and sweet chirps of birds greeted her. Tiya admired the beauty of nature, and thought of capturing it instantly. Instead of reaching for her camera, she went on to get her sketchbook. She painted after so many years, and it made her exceptionally happy.

After an hour or so, Tiya went to check her TV and phone, but the condition was still same. Seeing Tiya pouting, her father came to offer consolation. He started telling her a story. Tiya could not remember when was the last time that she heard her father's childhood experiences. During lunch, she chatted with her parents for a prolonged period.

At evening, she went for a walk. As she was not indulged in her phone, Tiya closely observed what exactly were other people doing. She saw children playing in park, shopkeepers pestering customers to make a purchase, labourers returning home, and so much more.

After coming back with onion pakoras, Tiya's mother informed that the internet connection is back, and their TV is also working now. Rather than feeling excited, and jumping upon her favourite gadgets, Tiya asked her parents to join her for an antakshari competition. They drank tea, ate pakoras, and sang out loud.

When going to bed, she saw her WhatsApp flooding with messages. Her best friend Ritu enquired how Tiya spent her last day of vacation. Well, she typed, "It was certainly the best day of my life".

We have become immensely tech savvy so much so that we often forget to enjoy simple yet most beautiful things.
