The Dangerous Aunt

Till last year, I was suffering from multinodular goiter since 14 years and I started having trouble breathing because it has started pressing my trachea. For those who don't know "Goiter: a thyroid gland that is enlarged for any reason, is called a goiter. A goiter can be seen when the thyroid is overactive, underactive or functioning normally. If there are nodules in the goiter, it is called a nodular goiter; if there is more than one nodule it is called a multinodular goiter".

My family started consulting doctors and all came to conclusion that surgery is required to remove the goiter. All doctors we consulted said that there are few dangers involved, such as I could loose my voice and I could die but at last we found a doctor who said he will do the surgery but it will be a major one and you will not loose your voice but your trachea could collapse. He said that I have little time left before my trachea gets fully blocked, so my family agreed and an appointment for surgery was fixed.

I was scared to death and my whole family was encouraging me to go through the fear so that I can get better but there was one individual who told me a story which started keeping me up all night and convinced me that I will surely die, that individual was my aunt.

She told me a story about her relative's minor surgery and he told his relatives that it is not a big deal and he will come back soon but accidentally doctor gave him a big dose of anesthesia which resulted in his death on the OT table.

I said to her that "before hearing your story I was terrified but now I am scared to death and you convinced me I will die."

She said to that "I am just telling you that nothing will happen to you but my uncle who died had a minor surgery on the other hand you will be having a major surgery."

My uncle heard the story said to her that "you should keep quiet because you are dumb " He encouraged me to have the surgery like other family members and at last I had that surgery and now I am free of this disease.
