I have always been a naughty Kid. I was a rebel. I was a girl. I loved to play cricket but was not allowed to play in the street with classmates because I was a girl. You know cricket is a game for boys. I had no friends. All the girls and boys at school would make fun of me. They would laugh whenever I used to take a bat in my hand or talked about Irfan Pathan- the famous Indian cricketer. One day I came back home, depressed and heartbroken, I crawled in my bed and slept without having lunch. I got up at 5 in the evening and began watching television. I skipped the sports channel and watched movies and cartoons instead. This routine continued for a week.

I no longer played cricket. My bat and ball remained on the side table like an old plant in which families often forget to water. My Mother and Father began noticing these changes in my behavior. They tried asking me but I kept quiet. One day they met my teacher in the market and asked him about my behavior. He told them how I was slapped by my sports teacher for showing interest to play cricket with boys. He told them about how at the young age of 7 I was kept on arguing with the teacher about how sports are completely unrelated to gender.

The next day I continued the same routine. I came back at 2 PM, had lunch and slept. I woke up at 5 PM every day and decided to watch TV. I had a habit of getting up and going straight to my mother and then look for my father. I couldn't find them both in the house that day.

Restless, I went outside in my courtyard to look for them. They were right outside with a new bat and ball in their hands. They had organized a cricket session for me. That day our family played cricket together. The love for cricket took birth again along with the birth of an unbreakable family bond.
