It was nearly six months ago when I saw her for the very first time. She was my sister's friend and had come to visit her at our house. My first meeting with her is still fresh in memories as if it were yesterday when I had heard a melodious tinkling of anklets followed by a soft knock on the half opened door of my house. I jumped up and rushed towards the door as if drawn by some mystic force.

"Hi, I'm Sandhya" the girl at the door said, "Is Sweety home? I'm her friend."

Her voice was so sweet that my ears craved to hear more from her. She had a pair abysmal green eyes and I stood there spell bound by their charm.

"Hey Sandhya!", my sister came running out of her room. She grabbed her hand and took her into her room.

After that day, Sandhya became a regular visitor at our house as Sweety was at hers. I fell deeper and deeper in love with her with each passing day. I was ready to do anything just to have a glimpse of her. My heart used to sink every time she waved us goodbye and stepped out of the house. I used to wait eagerly to meet her again with batted breath. She was completely unaware of the turbulence of emotions that her presence used to create inside me. She used to flash a charming smile whenever I opened the door for her and that was enough to make the day for me.

I have thought a million times to open up my heart to her and say, "Sandy, I love you."

Yes, I used to address her fondly as 'Sandy' but only in my imaginations! We had never talked with each other during the last six months. But now, as days passed by, it became more and more difficult for me to keep my emotions bottled. Finally, one day I decided to bare my heart to her. I knew well that I will never be able to convey my emotions in words and hence I had to search for some other way to do so.

After spending several sleepless nights, I hit upon a plan. I had overheard her saying that she loved cakes a lot. I went to a nearby bakery and ordered a cake and instructed the baker to write, 'I love you, Sandy' over the cake. I got it packed and came home to see my sister Sweety leave for Sandhya's house.

"Hey Sweety, are you going to Sandhya's house."

"Yes, why?"

"She has helped you a lot with your studies, isn't it?"

"Yes" she nodded thoughtfully, "that's true."

"Don't you think you should gift her something as a token of appreciation?"

"You are right," she said scratching her head, "but what shall I gift?"

"I think a cake will do," I said handing her the package.

"Oh yes" she said with an ear to ear grin, "she loves cakes. You are such a darling!"

She hugged me and left with the cake.

The next morning, I was greeted by a beautiful bouquet kept at my doorstep. I picked it up and saw an envelope inside it. I hurriedly took it out as I guessed that it was Sandhya's reply to my proposal. But to my surprise, it was addressed to Sweety. I turned it backwards and found that it was sent to her by a guy named Sandeep. I peeped into her room. As she was fast asleep, I tore it open. It read -

"Dear Sweety,

Thanks for the cake and for conveying your love to me. I too have always felt the same way for you. Though I have never dared to open up. In a day or two, my parents will come to your place to ask your hand in marriage. I can no longer wait to see you in a bridal attire.

With lots of love,

Your Sandy."

"Sweeeetty!" I barked like a mad dog and she woke up with a jolt.

"What?" She asked in utter bewilderment.

"Whom have you handed the cake that I gave you yesterday?"

"Oh that...?" She said yawing "as Sandhya was not at home, I gave it to her brother Sandy."

I felt as if the whole world was whirling around me!
