Second God Part 5: The Serpent

Not every morning comes with sunshine, Sometimes the darkness is too stubborn to leave, I often doubt, whether the Earth secretly craves for darkness.

The speedy wind was running away from some demon. The dark clouds were covering everything. The thunders were bringing occasional light, but this light was scarier than the dark itself. There was no silver lining, just like in Ankit’s life. In his childhood, he always played the role of a cop. He wished if just for once he acted as a thief, he might have known the escape but the bitter stark reality of life was lying before him.

He was sure that his friend Ajit would have taken care of his parents, but he was worried about Manila, his Manila. Where would she have been? The infinite possibilities were haunting him. His mind was perpetually engaged in selecting the words that would convey his true feeling and intentions to Manila.

He was isolated in the prison, a special cell was allocated for him. He was not allowed to meet other prisoners. The darkness in the cell was his only companion. Each day he was discovering the hidden secret about himself. He discovered his fears, strengths and most important his aim in life.

One day a gust of light hit his eyes. His eyes were wide open, his body was shivering. Again the guards spoke nothing but this time, they took him out and freed him. Just like his arrest, freedom too baffled him. He wanted to visit a temple first but he went straight to Delhi, City of her Manila.

Manila’s house was sold to someone else, No one in the neighborhood knows about her whereabouts. When he caught up with the all stories, he realized he was the Sun for his world that disappeared and in his absence darkness has destroyed everything.

Fear of losing your beloved soul mate, guilt of being the reason of a person’s suicide, Regret of taking life-threatening risk without even asking that person, dwelling on hopes to avoid trepidation of lover safety when you are supposed to safeguard her, each of these feelings are too big to swallow but surprisingly when they all came together Ankit felt nothing. All he longed at that moment was to go in his mother’s arm and sleep there. Forever.

Except for the location of his home, everything else was changed. The hands of his mother that were supposed to wipe out his tears pushed him out. She cursed him for killing his father who died due to lack of medicines. His brother accused him of destroying his future who left the study and joined a job for money. They disowned him and asked him to never come back.

That night Ankit cried in front of his own house, but the door never opened for him.

The next few days he turned every table to know about Manila but left empty-handed only.

Life is so fragile, one day it is filled with every possible happiness the next day everything could be wiped out. Ankit was cheering up his special friends in the Asha childcare house. He was wondering who has more wounds.

A new manager in the Asha house who replaced Ajit came to him and passed a sealed envelope. It had a phone number. When he asked about the sender, all she knew that it was supposed to deliver to you.

He had to dial the number, not only because of curiosity but he left himself with no other choice.

“Hello! This is Ankit, I got your number from Asha Child Care. May I know who this is?”

“You are innocent, how could someone arrest you. I can see it from your voice” there was wittiness in the female voice on the other side of the phone.

“I have nothing, I am destroyed. For God's sake leave me alone.” Ankit responded in a brittle voice.

For the very first time, he broke down into tears. He kept on crying. The voice continued for some time before disconnecting but Ankit couldn’t hear a word. Until the phone rang again.

“I wish I could console you with the words, but right now all I have is a plan and I want you to part of it. Don’t confuse yourself by thinking that you have a choice. If I can set you free, I can send you back” Dr. Mahak like always was crisp in her voice as in her action.

The secret of Mahak beauty lied in the perfection by which God made her. The grace with which she carries herself makes her beauty irresistible. She was as beautiful as a sword.

Ankit beard has grown big, so as his charm. Mahak could see the innocence in his eyes. His smile, it had enough to open the gates of the emotions of her heart. She could feel the pumping of the heart, life in each moment and as if all her senses are awakened. She was trying to control herself like she did in the past, but this time it was stronger. It was love.

Love always happens at first sight. If you feel it later with someone, you have confused the feeling of love with compromises, need respect, fear, habit, etc.

Mahak's plan was to steal health data from various hospitals, Govt camps, NGO health surveys so that she could identify the potential kidney donor and invest her energy and money more efficiently. It was going to be the major transformation that was going to change the economics of her business.

Gradually she trained Ankit and he executed her plans. He also felt good by being the change he always wanted to. His life mattered now. He could connect with people instantly. His respect for Mahak was increasing with every passing day. But he never fell in love with her. His search for Manila was still continued.

Mahak never revealed her emotions to him. She was hoping one day he will come to her. She was hiding Ankit and her relationship with everyone, including her business partners.

One day Ankit was supposed to wait in the car for Mahak but as it was a long wait, he went out. His eyes were wide open. He saw a man going out in a lavish car. He knew him. A Moment later Mahak came. When he asked about that man, his friend from Asha care Ajit. She first hesitated and tried to avoid, but eventually, she said which gave Ankit another reason to live.

“He is my partner in this business, he is called by name Master. And yes, he was the one who made your arrest. I never wanted to tell you. First, I was confused about his motives. But once he married your Manila, I got everything.”
