I was at the tender age of sweet sixteen, in 1990s era, which is still called as Era of Innocent romance.

Innocent because, back those time, romance blossomed through eyes only, there was no such thing called Internet “wala” love, nor mobile “wala” love had come into existence.

I remember, I was wearing dark purple suit salwar, that day, which had heavy embroidery on neck, and that was one of my favourite colour, back those days.

We, a family of four, my father, my three younger brothers and my mother, were travelling from Delhi to Rewari by train. And I was sitting in one of the window seats, of our cubicle.

Like most of the seats were occupied by my family members, one was still vacant and in another, there was an uncle, who deliberately made it vacant, by sitting with his wife, in another compartment.

After a few minutes, the train finally started and I glued my eye to outside green blush surroundings. It was beautiful weather in mid-July. I started outstretching my hands little outside the window, to feel the tiny droplets of rain.

Fifteen minutes have must be passed like that and this was the time, I knew, my ‘bukhhad’ brother will ask for snacks and my mother will open her large steel tiffin box, packed with homemade ladoos, bhujiya, daal, salad, fruits, chapati, achar, Papd, sabji and what not.

No, it’s not like that, we eat, so much in our home also, it’s just that, when we are in train, we prefer four-course meal. It was going as usual predicted. My brother asked for snacks and my mother opened her favourite ‘steel dabba’. After serving my brother and father, I know she will offer me. So beforehand she asks, I said no mumma,

“No Aunty, my stomach is full”’, a boyish voice replied.

I realised, she was not asking me, she was showing friendly courtesy to our co-passenger and seat adjacent to my window was no more vacant.

I casually looked towards the gentlemen, who was sitting in front of me,

And my heart felt like, it’s skipped a heartbeat.

He was very good looking, and also had a dimple on his cheeks. He was cute kind of guy. And those were the times when cute guys were hotter than hot guys. Other than that, there was something else’s that’s was coincidentally more striking about him, and making me more attracted towards him.

And that was the colour of his shirt, the dark purple, the shade I was wearing, “how is it possible that in mid-July summer, anyone except me, was wearing my favourite colour, dark purple”, I thought

So now it was looking like god's sign, like we were destined to meet, to my sixteen-year-old brain. I was trying to hold myself for not looking back to him and showing unaffected by his presence, but in reality, it was opposite and I was more alert of my surroundings.

My dad started having conversations with him and getting enquiry about his whereabouts. He was young, freshly joined the army. My father got quite delighted by having his company, as being armed men himself.

After some time, my father started asking him about his family and from where he belongs, though this was not unusual, as that’s was my father favourite pass time in trains, to know, who belongs to whom and how?.

Though I always feel it’s quite strange and illogical, I mean, why you want to know, where some strangers live or who he/she is some distant relative to you?

Anyway, but this time, I was loving their conversation and was feeling like papa is considering him as his future son in law. I started daydreaming about him, as my future husband, me as his ideal wife, ideal Bahu, ideal bahu like Parvati or tulsi in Star plus serials. Everything seems to be fantasies and beautiful, in my daydreaming land.

I felt like, He is the man of my life. He will come in a white horse and I will be waiting for him in my dulhan avatar, in my red attire, no not red, purple joda like Karishma Kapoor, the actress wore in that movie. I was busy in my daydreaming thoughts, just then his eyes caught my eyes through our window reflection. Our eyes met for a few seconds and gave confirmation to each other love.

It was confirmed now that, he was also feeling the same. My heart started racing more faster than train sound, “dhak dhak”.

That day seemed like my self resistant test, no matter how badly, I wanted to look at him, I was very composed, and was still looking outside the window. I didn’t dare to look back to him again though, I know, he was still gazing towards me.

I was aware of my parents' presence and after the consequences also. I knew my fathers CCTV eyes were scanning us and I didn’t want him to be in his bad light, at least not now, when he has considered him as his potential son in law or that’s the way, I thought.

“Sir ticket please, “

My thoughts got interpreted by TT official, who just got entered to our chamber. My father showed him, the ticket of four of us. He checked the ticket for a second, squinted his eye borrows and said, where is your daughter, Sir?

All of us were surprised, what he was saying? I was sitting in front of him.

My father pointed his fingers towards me,

Oh, she?, I thought she is with him..m.. he blurted out and stopped in midway

I don’t know, what made him, said that - I am with him, It could be because we were wearing same, purple colours cloth, or sitting adjacent to each other or we were young, looking like a couple or I don’t know, there can be many assumptions possibility.

He made a quick exit from the scenario before my father could give any clarifications. But after his exit, there was an awkward silence between all of us. I was feeling like a thief’s who caught red-handed. My cheeks were red, I don’t know, it was due to nervousness or I was blushing?

I exchanged a glance with him again, through the corner of my eyes, and I saw, he also couldn’t stop himself from smiling and blushing.

Oh my god, now, I also stupidly smiled and I didn’t know how to stop blushing.

And my father was seeing all this, in fact, my whole family was. It was already quite embarrassing for all of us. Just then, to add on, my stupid brother, started laughing. Though that made the situation light as my mother co joined my brother and my father also started fake smiling.

It looked like, TT has cracked some PJ joke and we all are laughing behind him.

But then, it made the situation more awkward and there was some awkward silence after the awkward laugh. Then, suddenly, I don’t know, what happened to my father, as he started talking to me randomly on a random subject.

He asked, “beta, Do you remember, Pinky aunt you elder son Sonu bhaiya?”

I didn’t remember, which Pinki aunt, but I didn’t say anything.

He continued, “Sonu bhaiya, remember?”

I nodded in confirmation, though I had no idea, from whom he was talking about, nor my mind was able to concentrate.

“Yes, you remember right, Sonu Bhaiya, He is Sonu Bhaiya's batchmate, Ashwin.” He finally concluded his statement and introduced me to him.

“Hello Ashwin “ I said, still was not able to comprehend, what my fathers were trying to do, but at that moment, was feeling good by his gesture of introduction.

My father cleared his throat, and continued, “He is Sonu *Bhaiya* batchmate, four years older to you, Don’t be disrespectful beta”

I finally got, what my father was trying to do, my ears started burning, eyes turned moist and heart was breaking into thousand pieces as,

 I said, Hello, Ashwin Bhaiya.
