The Destiny - III

The mother–in–law was no less. She had also seen the world. The old lady said, “For getting children one has to sacrifice something. There is no point in crying. You are sterile, understand. Now Jumman has to bring a new bride in this house.”

What could Nasiban say except that she would not like to live with another woman? She will not commit suicide! But she will boldly tell everyone in the society that Jumman was impotent. He was incapable of producing a child. How will he go for the second nikah leaving me? She would break the relationship with him before that. It happened exactly like that. It was known one day that he was going for the second nikah. There is no objection in going for the second nikah in Islam, while the first wife was alive. She could not come on the way of Jumman on this point.

Nasiban decided to leave for her maternal aunt’s house. Maternal aunt and her husband wanted to pressurize Jumman but he was helpless before her mother’s wishes. It is said how cleverly the blind mother-in-law acted in bringing her second daughter-in-law. Knowingly she brought a girl who was pregnant for one and a half months. Investigation showed that she was carrying the child of none other than that of her brother-in-law.

This was what the mother-in-law wanted. But it did not happen the way the mother-in-law or Jumman or his brother wanted. Nasiban was firm in her stand about Jumman’s impotency and that the fault lied in the man. So the second nikah was not its solution.

Mother-in-law kept her problems before Hazrat Ji. She paid him handsomely and it brought a good effect on him.

He asked mother-in-law “So, do you want to get rid of her?”

“Yes, Hajrat Ji, I want to see the grandchild even though I am blind. Nothing Will come out of her. I have seen a girl for Jumman. They are our relatives. They are pure Sunnis. Nasiban was from a Wahabi family, Hajrat Ji”.

Hajrat Ji got stunned. "What did you say? Is your daughter-in-law from a Deobandi family?"

"Give talaq to the “ Munafik” ( those who are against Islam). These Deobandis are worse than Kafirs. To mix with them is against Islam. Did you not know all these before the first nikah? Had you verified, you would not have seen this day. Thank Allah that you did not have a child from this Munafik. You could have got divorced on this fact that the bride was from Non-Islam community" said Hajrat Ji.

There is also a saying that you may rely on Kafirs but not on a Deobandis or a Wahabis. They do not have faith in Allah or on His preachings.

The bus started. The woman sitting next to her became alert. Nasiban showed love towards her children. She asked them their names. They told their names but due to the sound, she could not hear them properly. Then she asked, "Where do you go?" The reply came from their mother, “ Shahdol”

Just to keep the conversation going the other woman asked, “Where are you going?”

“Shahdol”

“Let us see when we reach. The bus has considerably delayed from the bus stand. Don’t know what may happen further”

“You are very correct. At this rate, we may reach Shahdol only by night.”

“The road is so bad that the vehicle cannot move fast. There are several big potholes”.

“Had I got the seat at the rear, I would not have taken up the journey. The front seats are good. The bumps are not felt”

The conversation was interrupted when the conductor came to collect the money from passengers.”

The conductor gave tickets on payment of money.

The window was wide open. The woman sitting next to Nasiban requested her to close the window as her daughter had a fever. Nasiban obliged by closing but still kept slightly open for her to get the breeze.

“What happened to her ?” asked Nasiban.

Nothing. Yesterday her Mamu bought her ice cream. After eating she had a slight fever. I am worried about her father who might scold me if he comes to know of her fever.

“So did you tell the fever knowingly to come and sit on the body of your daughter”.

"It is not so. He loves his children very much. It is good that the blind mother-in-law is no more or else she too would have joined him".

“Blind mother-in-law! Nasiban got a jolt. She remembered her mother-in-law ie her husband Jumman’s mother.

“Yes, Aapa” The other woman addressed Nasiban as her elder sister.

Nasiban got more interested in that woman. She asked her” Is Shahdol your in law’s place?”

“What is the name of your husband?”

Nasiban closed her eyes before getting her reply.

She hesitated to tell the name of her husband and asked her child,” Please tell the name of Abbu to the aunt.”

The daughter told “ Jumman “

Nasiban’s eyes were closed.

It looked as though a bomb had exploded in front of her. Jumman. She wanted even to close her ears.
