"Do you remember what day is today?"

I asked my husband enthusiastically.

But he was surprised.

"It's neither your birthday nor mine. It's not our anniversary as well. I wonder what it is. "

"Today, is the day when we first met. Don’t you remember that day ?"

I looked at his face and understood that he didn’t remember a thing. While I remembered everything very clearly. What he wore. What he had said. Everything was fresh in my memory.

"Okay so do you know when you actually started developing feeling for me? What actually led you to love me?"

I asked hopefully.

But my husband simply went on doing what he had been doing. Tinkering with his tools to fix the speaker. He said nothing.

I wonder if he actually did love me. I guess he married me because I was good enough not because he loved me like crazy. Like I did.

Or else why could he not remember our most important moments.

He didn’t even care enough for me. When I worked late at office and informed him that so and so collegues would be dropping me back home, he always appeared nonchalant.

Where I could not even stand the sight of him being with another woman, even for a moment, even for innoculous talks.

I took a cab to office, lost in thoughts. The next instant there was a jerk. I felt a sharp pain in my head. There was blood. My blood. I dialed his number vaguely concious of what's happening with me.

"It's me…. Accident …."

"What? Are you okay.."

I heard his voice but had no energy left in me to say more. I closed my eyes, awaiting my demise.

I opened my eyes dearily to find him holding my hands. I was on a hostipal bed and he was just beside me.

He was smiling but there were tears in his eyes. He looked pale.

"You found me?" I said with some effort.

He smiled again. His face got some color back.

He flashed his phone. "I have an app to track you all the time. It tracks the location of your phone"

"What? You jerk !"

This time his smiled broadened.

The nurse dropped by and asked me.

"You look better now. Tell me when did you get your last Tetanus injection?"

I couldn’t recall.

"It was in July of last year." replied my husband.

"Your last period ?" The nurse asked again.

I didn’t know. My periods were erractic I hardly took a note.

"10 days back." Replied my husband again on my behalf.

I looked at him, shocked.

"Is there a medical insurance for her?" This time the nurse asked him directly.

"Yes. We paid the premium last month." He said.

I continued looking at my husband. A husband never said sweet nothings to me but was always sweet over him.

I remembered the light night snacks he made me when I worked late at home to finish off my assignments.

I remembered how he always remembered to pay the internet, electricity and phone bills on time lest I have any issues working from home.

I would remember this day to my death whether or not he remembers it is immaterial to me now.
