A Spring Day
A Spring Day
She rests under the shade of the apple tree in her garden
The sun sits high in the sky and radiates a pleasant warmth
Her stool has a broken leg and wobbles under her weight
The birds sing and dance in the blue of the sky
She is wearing her favorite Easter dress, the one with the sunflowers
The roses and honeysuckle give a sweet aroma
The letter she holds to her chest is clean and the ink is still wet
A gentle breeze rustles through the grass
Her face is red and puffy from crying but her smile never falters
A bluejay swoops down from the sky to pluck a worm from the soil
The stool falls from under her and the letter falls from her grip
The rope is pulled taught
The birds stop singing
The tree groans with the sudden weight
An apple falls to the ground
Her eyes close forever
The smile still graces her face
