Family

It can mean so many things. 

Times when the sun is shining 

Like gold in the sky, 

When the rain is falling 

In gentle plip-plops 

Upon the smiling earth, 

Family means warmth 

And tight hugs

And high fives

And light 

And chocolate cake melting on the stove. 

Times when the moon is dim 

And the darkness 

Weaves a black shroud, 

When the sun rises 

Red as blood, 

When the rain drizzles 

Sooty grey, 

Family means pain 

And hurt

And purple bruises

And silver tears 

And mocking smiles with simpering tones. 

And when the sun 

Stitches apart 

The smokey clouds, 

And the warm rain 

Cascades through curly hair, 

Family 

Means warmth, and light, and peace again.
