The written word
is a powerful thing,
from a simple rhyme
to a song we can sing.

With music and melody, 
emotions are stirred,
they live in your memory 
from the day, they are heard.
 
Words of love 
in a letter so sweet,
a promise or vow 
from a dear heart, to keep.

Simple words 
and yet meaning so much,
caressing within, 
your heart they do touch.
 
Words of dear thanks
and appreciation,
for helping out
in a tense situation.

Words of support
when life takes so much,
helping you heal 
without even a touch.
 
Words of hate 
that hurt you deep down,
chilling your soul 
until you feel you must drown.

Words of deceit 
and careless lies,
till running like rivers, 
the tears from your eyes.
 
Words of defeat, 
unacceptable to all,
the merest utterance 
can cause us to fall.

Words of defiance;
of steely mettle,
no problem too large 
for us all to settle.

Words of comfort 
on our darkest days,
a shoulder to lean on 
when feeling dismayed.

Until the soul recovers,
with a loud battle roar!
Words of victory 
as we settle the score.
