Slipping Away

Everything has an end and a
beginning
I was told once
That Death beats Life each day
And I knew that
Rocks smash Scissors in a children’s game
But being who I am
I chose to look the other way
To ignore the ticking clock rushing
away
To turn a blind eye to the enormous
doors
Which parted to reveal
The burning flames of Perdition
Everything shutting down
Rushing away or falling asleep
My past—rolling, rolling
Down a hilltop called ‘life’
And life slipping away from my hands.
