Little Moments; Big Hearts

When we exit those gates,

I promise one thing;

I will look back,

Not because I want to stay,

But because I want to pause and just look back.

I will look back on the little moments,

That made my life bigger,

And my heart fuller.

I will remember,

The little girl in the pink dress on the first day of 4th grade,

Her radiant smile and innocent laugh;

And how she made a place in my heart for years to come.

I will remember,

The girl who spoke to me in a language I did not know.

A girl I called my little friend, but in time became my sister.

The girl who picked me up through my weaknesses,

And let me fly with my strengths.

I will remember,

The boy who first taught me how to love,

And what it really means when he first holds your hand.

A boy who taught me how to explore my heart like no other;

But most importantly, the boy who taught me how to love myself when he leaves.

I will remember,

The girl on the bus, who made sure I didn't drift away in endless thoughts.

The girl who told me all her problems with no fear,

And gave life to those endless rants.

I will remember,

The boy who healed me bit by bit, with music and understanding.

The boy who stayed awake just to make sure,

I didn't sleep with tears in my eyes;

The one who gave meaning to silence,

And coffee and their perfect combo.

And last but not least,

I will remember,

The girl at the back of the class,

With whom friendship found its meaning on the very first day.

The one who understood like no other.

The girl with whom I sat on the ledge,

Pouring out the secrets of my life and she hers,

With all the belief that it will be our little secret.

Because of all these people,

I will look back on the little moments,

That made my life bigger,

And my heart fuller.
